Somali chicken stew with yogurt & coconut milk (Maraq digaag) [Hawa Hassan] from Cherry Bombe: The Cookbook (page 52) by Kerry Diamond and Claudia Wu

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

Notes about this recipe

This is an easy recipe, without tons of chopping, which punches above its weight in terms of ? flavor. The banana on the side was an excellent idea. This makes a ton of food, so next time I will cut it in half, although I'm happy to have a bunch in my freezer now. ?? Minor changes: ??I used crushed tomatoes instead of fresh since it is not tomato season yet. I also used a mix of thighs and breasts because that's what I had in my freezer. ?

I used ground chicken, but this is a solid meal with lots of flavor. The banana is certainly unexpected and an interesting twist.

Good flavor. Takes over 1.5 hours with all the chopping and cooking time. Could easily make vegan by subbing more potatoes for the chicken without any real change to the flavor. Agree with former poster, do not omit banana. Would definitely make again.

Perfect for a cool rainy evening! Used sweet potato instead of regular. Do not omit the banana on top - yum!
