Saturday morning cartoon cereal from The New Pie: Modern Techniques for the Classic American Dessert (page 207) by Chris Taylor (Pie) and Paul Arguin

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

Notes about this recipe

  • Eat Your Books

Can substitute Cap’n Crunch’s Oops! All Berries, Trix cereal or fruity breakfast cereal of your choice for of Froot Loops cereal.

This idea is very cute, but this recipe is honestly disgusting as written. It was like eating a fork full of frosting topped with Froot Loops that have been coated in white chocolate. Just thinking about it is making me nauseous. Even my kids couldn’t finish a slice. The streusel was pretty tasty before coating it in white chocolate. I understand it’s to make the cereal look like it’s in milk, but it also makes it dull, less crunchy, and waay too sweet. But it’s the filling that really ruins the pie. The filling is literally a frosting, and I wish I had recognized that before making this. Infusing the cream with cereal is a great idea, but this pie could have been so much better if the filling was more like a chiffon or something stabilized with gelatin instead fat.

Subbed in cinnamon toast crunch for all cereals, worked well but would add some more cinnamon to cream/mascarpone mixture next time.
