Classic barbecue sauce from The Best Slow and Easy Recipes: More than 250 Foolproof, Flavor-Packed Roasts, Stews, and Braises that let the Oven Do the Work by Cook's Illustrated Magazine

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

Notes about this recipe

This is very good and easy to make. I made half the recipe because I was low on ketchup. Good flavor and very nice consistency. It's got a spicy kick that to me is just about right. I wanted it a tad sweeter so I added 2 teaspoons of maple syrup. I also ran the stick blender through it instead of straining it which made it thicker. Ordinarily I wouldn't make homemade BBQ sauce but it's getting hard to find a storebought one that a) tastes good and b) doesn't have High Fructose Corn Syrup in it. So this one will do very nicely for the time being.
