Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

    I'm not sure if my technique was to blame, but these seemed easy to make, and I followed the recipe and steps carefully. However, they turned out surprisingly dense rather than flaky. The top was browned and had risen, but the inside texture remained heavy. This could be due to the age of the baking powder. I served them with green chili sausage gravy, which helped mask the denseness.
