Devil's food white-out cake from Baking - From My Home to Yours (page 247) by Dorie Greenspan

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

I made this with my 11-year old, who was obsessed with the cover photo. It looked beautiful, and turned out looking very much like the cover photo. The cake was good, but the icing really makes the cake (so only make it if you like marshmallow/Italian meringue sorts of icings). It was a little too sweet for my taste--I was happy with just one piece--but the kids at dinner really loved it. It would make a great kids birthday cake! It did not depose Maida Heatter's frozen chocolate mousse as the preferred festive dessert in the household.

Made this several years ago for my brother's birthday. The frosting had a slightly strange gummy, marshmallowy consistency that wasn't my favorite.

Gorgeous cover recipe, but probably not a repeater for me. Applying crumbs was a real p.i.t.a. . . .

A real showstopper. I loved the icing the most - marshmallowy clouds.

...they did make for a sweet, unbelievably light cake — unbelievable given the size and presence of the thing, which was formidable.
