Cucumber and poppy seed salad from Ottolenghi - The Cookbook (page 20) by Yotam Ottolenghi and Sami Tamimi

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

    Delicious!!

Simple but delicious as a side dish.??

My turn for this one. The recipe was good if a touch sweet for my taste. We used about 2/3 of the dressing. I feel like instead of the fresh chili a drop of chili garlic sauce might be nice.

Made 1/3 recipe to test it out. Did not have fresh chilies so used dried; worked fine. Agree with others about the excess dressing, so I poured it off and saved it for the next batch, which worked well. Added some diced tomato and feta, because I had them lying around - also worked well. Lovely salad and can't wait for my own mini cucumbers to produce this year!

A spicy cucumber salad, perfect for a wonderful, summer-on-the-balcony lunch. Make sure the chillies are mild!

I thought this was swimming in oil. Also would have liked to taste more of the sweet and sour contrast.

  • chezmaryb on February 26, 2021

Really tasty simple salad. Literally drank the leftover dressing.

Fabulous salad! If it is not all devoured, it also, surprisingly, holds up well until the next day.

  • kari500 on July 23, 2020

Delicious, easy, more than the sum of its parts. Had a glut of cucumbers, and didn't want to do my usual Asian cucumber salad, so went with this. I'll repeat it.

  • TrishaCP on March 27, 2020

This salad was very tasty. I completely forgot to include the oil, but I didn’t miss it.

  • Melyinoz on February 03, 2018

I enjoyed this salad. I cut down considerably on the amount of oil used to suit a friend's dietary requirements and I don't think the salad suffered for it.

  • Delys77 on September 12, 2014

This was pretty good, but as with many cucumber salads I found the ratio of dressing to cucumber was a bit off. The flavours were nice and it the poppy seeds were a nice touch. Good enough but not blown away.

    Great dish

Have made several times already. The addition of the poppy seeds adds a pleasant crunch. New go-to cucumber salald the whole family loves.

  • smtucker on August 02, 2014

Love this salad. Young cousins eat it before dinner has hit the table. Big hit.

  • Melanie on September 09, 2013

This salad is very crunchy and tastes really fresh. I used medium cucumbers and didn't scoop out the flesh but would try it that way next time.

  • kmattingly on April 22, 2013

Extremely refreshing salad. Even my kids love this one

  • mfto on August 02, 2011

p 20 very simple - if using European cucumber, cut it lengthwise in half and remove seeds - then cut in slices - try Seductions of Rice method of salting cucumbers to remove excess water from cucumber.

This is such a simple salad but transforms a cucumber into something exotic. I've made it several times and everyone loves it.
