French toast from The Breakfast Book (page 39) by Marion Cunningham

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

I agree with Mamacrumbcake. Following a recipe (this recipe) finally yielded me great French toast! I used cheap, rather thin wheat bread and got good results. I did the spiced variation and used cinnamon, cardamom, and nutmeg. Since there is 1/4 cup milk per egg, this seems easy to scale up or down.

The perfect French toast recipe. I make this every weekend with a baguette or ciabatta. It's perfect with some salted butter on top and maple syrup.

I grew up winging it when making French toast and the French toast was always fine. But I didn't get perfect French toast until I tried the proportions in this recipe. I will always make French toast this way from now on.
