Kale salad with cherries and pecans from The Smitten Kitchen Cookbook: Recipes and Wisdom from an Obsessive Home Cook (page 67) by Deb Perelman

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

This has been my ride or die salad since this book came out. Double the amount of dressing.

My go-to kale salad. The whole is more than the sum of its parts and the leftovers will keep for a few days.

This is a fabulous salad. And so fabulous that you can make a bunch of substitutions (because you didn't plan to make this, so you were missing a bunch of stuff) and it still turns out amazing! I didn't have several items but subbed manchego for goat cheese, celery and green peppers for the radishes, dried cranberries for the dried cherries and spicy brown mustard for the Dijon. Still was fantastic!

This is a great kale salad. Like others, I used dried cranberries instead of the dried cherries. For once I read the notes prior to cooking and was reminded that I had a bit of butternut squash left over from another recipe. Roasted butternut squash is a wonderful addition. (I had about 2 cups cubed.)

Made it with "standard" kale. Wife dislikes radishes, so upped the cherry / pecan factor. Dressing really compliments dish. Recipe's 20 minute rest suggestion made a difference; mellowed the kale nicely.

    My go-to kale salad recipe.

-- 2025 and still making this salad, twice this week. I always add quinoa, usually 1/4-1/3 cup cooked from dry. Instead of radishes I usually use onion, and the fruit is sometimes halved grapes or diced plums or apples. I love this dressing! Pecans are dreamy here, but so are pumpkin seeds, or a combo. -- 2018 I've made this more times than I can count, often subbing the radishes for other crunchy veggies or slivered onion. The cherries are usually cranberries, the pecans are generally pumpkin seeds. Sometimes I'll toss in quinoa or farro or lentils ... and a favorite version of this includes roast squash and some spoonfuls of wild rice.

Great and simple kale salad, dressing is sweet enough to cut thru bitterness. Would be great with roast butternut squash added.
