I first noticed this a week or so ago ... but it seem weird to have reviews and notes intermixed.

I'm not seeing that mjes. Notes and Reviews are in separate sections on the Home Page. Try refreshing your page. If that doesn't work, try deleting your browser cache/history. If you still see Notes in the Reviews section, please contact us with details of which device and browser you are using to access EYB.

Jane .. maybe its because under Notes/Reviews the most recent reviews have also specified specific recipes .. so under reviews there are in fact comments about specific recipes (as in not a book review)..

Yes, debkellie, that is exactly what I am seeing -- when were reviews of specific recipes introduced and how do they differ from notes on recipes?

Good question mjes! No idea and its very weird ... but at least I too see what you are seeing ;-) So its not your system ;-)

The Notes and Reviews lists (on the Notes and Reviews links under the Library and My Bookshelf tabs at top and the latest postings on the Home Page) are all Notes and Reviews - for recipes and books. That has always been the case. You may just have only noticed that in the last few days as I had added some recipe reviews - most reviews added are of books. Likewise, most Notes added are of recipes. But they have both always been a mix.

To clarify for anyone unclear - Reviews are external reviews of books and recipes - from newspapers, magazines, blogs, etc. Notes are EYB member reviews of books and recipes.

Thanks for clarifying.

I also didn’t realize that reviews were for external reviews. When I post comments on a recipe I have always used the notes function but lately I wondered if I/we should have been using the review button all along. So I’m glad you clarified this Jane!

I will say though that when scrolling through looking for a recipe, I always click to read the comments from people who have made the recipe, only to find more often than not that the note is an ingredient substitution suggestion not a comment on the success of the recipe.

Helpful as substitution note may be, I for one, have often wished that the recipe comments were under a different tab and icon to the ingredient substitution suggestions, or that the substitution suggestions didn’t show up in the note count in the initial recipe search ( I know, I know ...then how would anyone know they were there?) but for me, that would mean it was easier to spot the recipes with feedback on them.

This is not meant to be a complaint as such, as it will be resolved when all the recipes get more comments as it will be easier to hunt the good ones out. I for one am going to make more of an effort to comment on the recipes I cook as I find the comments very helpful when deciding which recipe to make or what adjustments I should make to a recipe during cooking.

The site will just keep get better and better as more recipe comments are added!
