The Buy book option available on individual book listings is very useful but it does not obey the user's selection of a bookseller.

I have accounts on both Amazon US and UK websites but clicking that button and selecting Amazon (US) forces me to Amazon (UK). This is irritating and even more so when Amazon UK is not listed in the pop-up menu. It happened to me this morning on https://www.eatyourbooks...e-recipes-from-the-heart as the book is unavailable from Amazon UK. Correcting the URL to .com I see the desire Amazon (US) website. Compounded irritation when clicking on The Book Depository option to see the book is listed as "Currently unavailable".

That must be something that Amazon has started as our links definitely go to the sites that we specify. Oddly it isn't happening for me from the USA - when I click Buy Book links to Amazon UK, CA or AU sites I go to those sites. Could some other UK members please test this? Select the same book ThePatheticBaker links to and click Amazon USA. Please let us know what happens.

As regards The Book Depository our links are to books listed on the bookseller's site. Their API doesn't check if the book is available for sale, just that it is listed.

I've just looked and Amazon UK currently does not appear as an option when you click the link to buy it.  I checked Amazon UK's website and the book is unavailable from them, so thought that might be the reason ... but it is also unavailable from the US store and that does appear as an option when you click 'Buy Book'.  It is available from Amazon CA and Amazon AU (although at an eye-watering price)

FJT - the issue ThePatheticBaker has isn't the availability of that book but that when they click Amazon USA as the Buy Book option they get directed to the Amazon UK site. What happened if you clicked our Amazon USA link?

i just clicked on the Amazon US link and it did indeed redirect to Amazon UK.

Interesting. Is it happening for other books or just that one?

I've just tried it on a few books at random from the library.  About 60% of the time when clicking on Amazon US it diverts to Amazon UK and 40% of the time it goes straight to Amazon US as you would expect.  This was by no means scientifc, just the result of clicking around for 5 minutes.

Examples:

- these link to Amazon US when you click on Amazon US https://www.eatyourbooks...ibrary/95151/hot--cheesyhttps://www.amazon.com/d...e=osi&th=1&psc=1

- these link to Amazon UK when you click on Amazon US https://www.eatyourbooks...e-engine-2-cookbook-morehttps://www.eatyourbooks...ench-tarts-50-savory-andhttps://www.eatyourbooks...ritish-larder-a-cookbookhttps://www.amazon.co.uk...de=gs3&tag=eayobo-21https://www.eatyourbooks...baked-mashed-roast-friedhttps://www.amazon.co.uk...de=gs2&tag=eayobo-21 Just a note, when clicking on Amazon US the link tries to go to Amazon.com before changing to Amazon.co.uk in the search field at the top.

Hope these examples help you narrow down what is going on.

I've been following this thread and so out of interest , I chose 5 random books from recent member notes and every time I pick Amazon US , Amazon.com briefly appears and then immediately redirects to Amazon.ca (the Canadian site). I made sure I was signed out of my Amazon acct on my device but still was sent there every time.  Not a problem for me at all...but perhaps another example of what others are seeing.

Maybe it's got something to do with foreign rights not having been sold.

If it directs you to the .Co.uk site.... you can manually change the URL by deleting. Co.uk and retyping .Com leaving everything else the same.

Am wondering if amazon is up to no good?

That's what I have been doing. But it's irritating and should be unnecssary to do so.
