Favorite and original dips?   Go to last post Go to last unread

Hello We are having a barbecue with a couple of friends and I am bringing dips to serve on "aperitif" - I was looking to bring two or three and then have them guess the ingredients for a treat. It needs to be mixed or ingredients difficult to guess, and preferably light-ish (in terms of calories).

So I was looking for interesting and original dip ideas - I found a corn hummus on Instagram, but for the life of me, I didn't save it and now I cannot find it anymore.

In my book https://www.eatyourbooks...nceur-pour-les-gourmands I did find a few very original ideas :

- Chervil and black radish/or any other more summery radish

- Carrot, cumin and chives

- Soft goat cheese, basil, curry, capers, scallions (odd, I know, but works really really well, this is the only one I have actually tried)

I was wondering if any of you got interesting ideas? Cheers! The tasting is this week-end :) And I am cooking them Friday night (I think)

If you are going for a hard to guess ingredient use tofu.  I searched my recipes for tofu dip and came up some interesting options.

If you can't find tofu dips on your own Bookshelf, there are some interesting options in the Library Online Recipes.

This has been popular when I've hosted gatherings: Spicy Cashew Dressing

As mentioned in my note on the recipe, if you refridgerate it after making it, it becomes quite thick.

I like the idea!! I don't think the boys are so much into tofu - but indeed they would not guess it!

I will trial and error a little bit tomorrow evening with different options and see where I get at :)

For the 'spicy', I most often go with smoked paprika and I use extra virgin olive oil.

And so I made :

- Spicy cashew using old bay seasoning and cayenne as spicy

- Carrots/apples/parsley/coriander/camelina oil (herby flavour, confidential oil if there is one :)

Soft goat cheese/basil/curry/capers

With an optional topping of mixed grilled bacon and almonds (mixed together like a coarse powder)

Verdict of the guessing game tonight!

Hello hello

So, feedback : my best friend guessed almost everything, except the cashews, basil and camelina oil and definitely won. The cashew one was a big hit with his friend, but he loves spicy food. I think my bf preferred the creamy one and the apple and carrot, but he is trying to lose weight, so that might just be why.

I love this game lol :)

Thank you!
