I'm a US member and so do I need to be concerned at all about the email I received today which says in part "We have sent an email to everyone impacted by this [EU] rule change, so please watch out for it and update your preferences or you may lose your EYB data including your Bookshelf"?

sounds like a classic scam spam mail to me .. I'd just delete it!

It is mentioned in the latest EYB newsletter. Says if you are affected you have to update your preferences.

MHLandSDZ, if you're in the US, the new privacy rules under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) don't affect you. The GDPR only impacts EYB members in the European Union.

What do we have to update? I am in the EU and I saw the newsletter saying there would be an email to everyone affected by the change, but I haven't received the email telling me what needs to be done. (This is probably because up until just now my profile said I was in the U.S. I never updated it when I moved.)

Yildiz100 - we did have you listed as being in the USA, which was why you did not get our initial GDPR email. I have now listed you as being in the EU so you will get our second GDPR blast email which we will send out next week. When you get it you need to confirm that you want to receive our emails (or not) and that we can store your data on our server.

I didn't get any e-mail about the GDPR either, although I am listed as being in the Netherlands. What is going on here?

wester - the problem we have is that you Unsubscribed from our emails so we are not allowed to email you in a bulk email, under the Terms of Use of MailChimp, our email service provider. I'm trying to work out how we get around that one.

Hi Jane, has this second blast gone out? I have been watching for it but haven't seen it. Thanks!

Yildiz100 - No sorry, it hasn't gone yet. But will be this week. I found we had a lot of members listed on our mailing list with no country so I am having to update those in case any of them are in the EU.
