I just wanted to say how much I enjoy seeing the latest notes that members have added.  I've found so many exciting new recipes and books by following these links. And, like today, sometimes I find gems that I didn't even realise I already own!!  I don't remember when I last looked at Jamie's Kitchen, but a note on Bailey's and banana bread and butter pudding got me searching for the book and I've now found a heap of new recipes I like the look of!

My thoughts exactly. I read the notes consistently and get many ideas for recipes.

Me too! Really appreciate everyone's comments, and I often look there first for a new idea when I'm stumped. Thanks to everyone who posts reviews and comments.

Count me as a fan, too!  I was so happy when I discovered this feature months ago and I check it religiously -- I'll check into EYB even when I'm not searching my own books, just to see what new notes have been posted.  As a result, I've purchased a few new cookbooks and my 'Do Later' bookmark has swelled to 249 recipes, easily the greatest number of all of the bookmarks I have.  A recent move has prevented me from cooking much in the last couple of months, so I have a lot of catching up to do!

This is one of my favorite parts of the site, too.

I was wondering if it might be relatively simple to expand the number of 'pages' of notes (to, say, 7 dots rather than three) -- in the interim before the resources are marshaled to do the more complex programming to enable more social interaction. As a long-ago database programmer, I recognize there might be unacceptable trade-offs here involving speed or storage, but it's a thought.

I would love to see more entries at a time. I know I miss some entries once in awhile

My favorite feature on EYB is Notes. It makes me look at cookbooks I have as well as cookbooks I don't have. I wish there was a way to keep Notes in a chronological list so they are findable beyond the short time they stay on the site. Often, I'll see a note early in the day and later it's gone and I can't remember the name of the book. Perhaps you can add this availability to your next update.

Has anyone figured out a way to bring up previous notes?
I agree that it my favorite feature and I worry that I might be missing some pertinent notes. It is such a great resource for finding cookbooks that are new to me.

Medamida, I'm afraid that once they've scrolled past, they're "gone".  You can check in via the profiles of members who post Notes often (Breadcrumbs, delys77), but currently there's no way to just look at Notes from most recent on back.

Well strictly speaking they aren't "gone".  Al Notes are listed for the recipes they relate to and also compiled for the book.  They are also listed on the Notes tab for every member who posted them.  But I do understand what you mean - if you just want a random viewing of every Note recently posted then it does expire at the most recent 15.  I wonder what would be a reasonable number to view?  I don't think it could be unlimited.

Jane I wonder if it would be possible to have a "Notes" tab much like we do now for "Books" and "Recipes".  Members could then sort by book or recipe if they wished.  Would that be a possibility?

Not sure if there's currently a way to search for notes by a particular member (other than clicking on their name if we see a post by them) but that would be a nice feature...

Thanks, Breadcrumbs.  That is a great idea!

I've asked our developer what would be involved with this.  Notes are obviously quite different to the other sectors of Books, Magazines, Blogs, Recipes in that Notes are not on your Bookshelf and do not have category filters.  But we will see what could be done.

Thank you taking our questions and suggestions to heart, and to the developer. Could Notes be added to the drop down "Sort by"option or could Buzz be sorted by date?

I love notes too and it's the first place I always go to when I check EYB.  I noticed that some members do not show notes on their profiles.  Is that mean they have not added notes or perhaps opted to keep private?

#16 Posted : Monday, March 3, 2014 12:18:22 PM(UTC)

All notes where a member has not checked "make this a personal note?" will show up on their profile. So profiles without any notes could fall in either scenario -- they have not added any notes, or the ones they did add, they kept private.

Hello, just wanted to say that I too love the notes box on the front page, and I also would love a way to search or organize my notes!  I would really love it if I could say, go to one of my books, and then see all of my notes from that book, so I can tell which recipes from a book I have made and liked.

Also, when you look at all the notes for a particular book, it would be helpful if the notes could be organized in some way, like most recent, book order, alphabetical, or whatever (ideally there would be options, just like there are options for the order of recipes in a book).  In popular books with many notes, it's really hard to tell what's going on, as the notes seem to come up in totally random order.

Notes is just about my favorite feature on EYB, so I would love to be able to get even more use out of them!

A cheat's way for your own notes is to open your profile, (this is mine: just put your user name after the /)bookshelf so you get your  page: eg:  "westminst bookshelf" . There you will see a notes tab for all your notes. Then you can see every note you've made, and also search using the good old "search on this page" function from your browser : probably "control F" for a word (ie book name or ingredient name) and every instance of that word on the page will be highlighted... Hope that helps!

The notes on that page appear to be listed by reverse chronological order (ie most recent first) whereas  the notes under any book title notes tab appear to be in chronological order;-)

Mind you when you personally have 9 pages of notes, I understand that process may be tedious. ;-)

There's an even easier way to get to your Profile page.  Just click on your username in the upper right hand corner.  A drop-box will appear with 4 entries, one of which is 'My Profile.'  Click on that and you are taken to your Profile page where there is a tab for your Notes on the left side.

We are currently developing a better Notes tab on both the Library and Bookshelf pages.  You will then be able to sort and search through all Notes and all your own Notes.  We are also combining the member Notes and external Reviews under one tab called Reviews.  There will still be the latest 15 on the Home page but you can view everything on the new tabs.  This feature will hopefully launch within the next two weeks and should address what everyone has requested here.
