  • Brown seed and fruit bread

      What a strange bread - not unpleasant, but it doesn't seem to be sure whether it wants to be a bread or a cake. The texture is very cake-like and the dried fruit make it quite sweet, however, not sweet and soft enough to actually be a cake. As a bread it's very dense and heavy - one slice fills you up for the day! While it's quite good to have a quick bread recipe (no kneading required) in my repertoire, I'm not sure whether I'll try this recipe again.

  • Leek soup

      This isn't a particularly special dish, but we enjoyed this delicately flavoured soup nonetheless. Simple to make, it's a good way to use up leeks. Needs good seasoning for it not to be too bland.

  • Grilled pineapple with spiced salt

      These were so-so. They need a lot of sugar to caramel nicely (which I didn't do), and it was hard to judge the amount of chilli salt to put on.
