Notes about Recipes in this book

  • 'The free ranger' chicken, cider and leek pie

    • TLouise on August 30, 2021

An ok pie but I much prefer the Hairy Bikers Chicken Ham & Leek Pie from their Perfect Pies book.

  • 'The chairman' beef, lager and shiitake pie

    • e_ballad on January 09, 2020

Good, though too salty for us (& I’m usually fairly heavy handed with seasoning). I’d wind back on the soy sauce, but otherwise great flavour.

  • Spring chicken pot pie

    • e_ballad on March 11, 2020

Very good, though the sauce needed a lot of reducing - I’d suggest halving the quantity of stock & adding more if needed.

  • Pieminister moo pie (well, almost)

    • e_ballad on April 07, 2020

For their ‘trademark’ pie, I was a little underwhelmed, especially as we’d enjoyed so many of the other recipes. Don’t get me wrong - it’s perfectly fine, but nothing more than that.

  • Pulled pork, cider and sage pies

    • e_ballad on May 19, 2020

      Absolutely delicious.

  • Clapshot pie

    • e_ballad on November 30, 2019

We deviated from the recipe by going the more traditional leftover roast lamb instead of the lamb mince. An excellent shepherds pie recipe.

  • Leftovers pie

    • e_ballad on February 28, 2021

Absolutely delicious. Can highly recommend. The sauce alone is worth the price of admission.

  • Hunter's chicken pie

    • e_ballad on May 31, 2020

Really tasty & components could easily be prepared ahead of time. It makes twice the quantity of ‘relish’ needed for the pie filling - as a condiment, I wouldn’t bother.
