  • BLT canapés with basil mayonnaise

    • pastaplease on March 28, 2022

OMG - so delicious! Very hard not to eat them all up before guests arrive. Used Nature's Own white bread - perfect. Brushed both sides with olive oil before cutting into circles (no spray) and baking.

  • Ham and cheese palmiers

    • Breadcrumbs on January 01, 2015

      p. 28 – Really lovely! These are very simple to assemble; you just need to factor in the 1 hour the recipe calls for to allow time for the un-cooked palmiers to chill before slicing. Needless to say, my time was tight and I had to skip that step since I hadn’t read the recipe through in advance! That said, they turned out beautifully. I should have adjusted the time to account for the fact they weren’t cold so mine were slightly over-baked but they still tasted fabulous. I used Kozlik’s Dijon mustard. • Mushrooms stuffed with Boursin and prosciutto

    • pastaplease on March 28, 2022

I've made these for small group gatherings (Mah Jongg/Book Club) and everyone loves them. They're easy to put together and can be done ahead (big plus). Don't overfill, maybe add chives to the mixture. One time the mushrooms came out soggy and I don't know why ... maybe the rack was too low in the oven? Working on figuring that out.

  • Mini cheese quiches

    • pastaplease on April 07, 2022

A bit bland, but very easy (if using store-bought pie dough) to make for a crowd. For that reason, I'd try these again but experiment with some additional herbs or spices, maybe add some cooked pancetta (?) Also, I'd do a more thorough job of greasing the muffin tin. Note: this make-ahead ATK issue is a goldmine of often delicious appetizers. It's my go-to whenever I'm hosting a group gathering.

  • Cheddar cheese rounds

    • kbrooks on May 24, 2025

Wonderfully rich cheese cookies. I've taken double batches of these to gatherings and they always disappear quickly.
