Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Dandan noodles

    • helskitchenvt on July 06, 2016

Tastier than any dandan noodles I've had before or since (granted, I've never actually visited any part of Asia) - but you really do need to get all the particular ingredients, not just substitute whatever sort-of-close items might be in your cupboard. On the other hand, I've now started stocking basic Chinese ingredients and my cooking is much better for it. Add shrimp on top for a particularly good dish.

  • Issan-style pork (Laab)

    • meggan on July 07, 2020

This is probably due to the quality of my ingredients but the paste could have used a little more oomph and the stringy lemongrass pieces were a little yucky. That said, with a few adjustments, the flavors could be good.

  • Clay pot mushroom risotto

    • meggan on January 27, 2022

This was really good with matta Rosa rice.

  • Indonesian fried rice (Nasi goreng)

    • meggan on May 04, 2016

Good but I thought the rice/sauce ratio was a little off. Next time I will use 4 or 4.5 cups of rice.

Publishers Text

In Lucky Rice, Danielle Chang, founder of the festival of the same name—which brings night markets, grand feasts, and dumpling-making sessions to America's biggest cities—feeds our obsession for innovative Asian cuisine through 100 recipes inspired by a range of cultures.

Here, comfort foods marry ancient traditions with simple techniques and fresh flavors—and include a few new classics as well: chicken wings marinated in hot Sichuan seasonings; sweet Vietnamese coffee frozen into pops; and one-hour homemade kimchi that transforms pancakes, tacos, and even Bloody Marys. With a foreword by Lisa Ling, this lushly photographed cookbook brings the fun and flavors of modern Asian cooking to your kitchen.
