Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Chocolate chip cake

    • Nancith on May 31, 2020

This was a nicely flavored cake, somewhat denser texture than expected, but that may be due to cook's error. The disappointing aspect was that the mini chocolate chips that are supposed to sink down into the cake batter, did not, & stayed on top of the cake. After frosting the cake, you couldn't even tell the chips were there. Not sure what went wrong with that.

  • Chocolate icing

    • Nancith on May 31, 2020

This was a pain to make, but yielded a rich result. Recipe says to use whisk attachment on mixer which I dutifully did, but it was devilishly difficult to incorporate the dry ingredients into the butter. I ended up with a mixture like mortar, until adding the cream, which helped make the transformation to a smooth & creamy frosting. The process took way longer than it should have, but fortunately, it worked. Actually subbed melted vanilla ice cream for heavy cream & it worked perfectly.
