Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Melon and strawberry arugula salad

    • Nancith on July 01, 2024

A light and tasty salad, with a slightly sweet (from honey) and lemony dressing, also with great visual appeal. It looks like a "taste of summer." It would be even better if my cantaloupe had actually been ripe, but despite that, still very enjoyable.

  • Smoked Boston butt sliders

    • jimandtammyfaye on August 09, 2022

Just used the spice rub from this for Boston butt roasts. Halved the cayenne and it was still plenty spicy.

  • Summer coleslaw

    • jimandtammyfaye on August 09, 2022

Good southern slaw recipe. Tasted great with boston butt sliders

  • Southern-style BBQ sauce

    • jimandtammyfaye on August 09, 2022

Not my favorite Alabama white BBQ sauce-style recipe. Very thin and tangy.

  • Tomato corn pie

    • jimandtammyfaye on August 09, 2022

The addition of corn to the tomato pie was wonderful. Flavor was nice, not heavy like some tomato pie recipes. Only problem- the baked pie was incredibly watery, even after salting the tomatoes and letting them rest on paper towels. The recipe is worth trying again with tweaks to reduce liquid.

A decidedly Southern take on sweet and savory pies for celebrations of all kinds, even quiet dinners at home.

Pies are perennial, but no one ever claimed they're easy to make. Amanda Dalton Wilbanks, owner of The Southern Baked Pie Company in Georgia, wants to change that. With only one pastry recipe, pies of every size can be made for any meal: full-size, mini, tassies, and handheld pies both savory and sweet.

Each chapter features a full menu centered on a holiday or occasion, with recipes for side dishes, appetizers, and more to complement the flavors of the starring pie.

Amanda Wilbanks opened her first retail bakery in Gainesville, Georgia, in 2012. Southern Baked Pie Company now has three retail locations in Georgia and a distribution center for shipping pies across the country.
