Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Spinach salad

    • jennifer_vszvd1 on February 08, 2026

Modified a bit: Removed cheese and tofu. Added chicken. Subbed honey roasted almonds for cinnamon almonds. Great flavor!

  • Not-so-Chinese chicken salad

    • jennifer_vszvd1 on February 08, 2026

We didn’t think the dressing was cery flavorful. Consider using soy sauce, rice vinegar, toasted sesame oil, honey, and white pepper instead. Oil temp needs to be higher (about 360F) for rice noodles.

  • Supermodel's arugula salad

    • jennifer_vszvd1 on February 08, 2026

I omitted avocado and added chickpeas and chicken for protein

  • Famous sisters-with-a-K's favorite [salad]

    • hbakke on August 13, 2024

We both liked the dressing on this variation of a Chinese chicken salad. I love any excuse to eat those crunchy chow mein noodles.

  • Chicken and avocado [salad] with honey hot sauce vinaigrette

    • jennifer_vszvd1 on April 10, 2026

I forgot the cheese, substituted grilled chicken for the rotisserie chicken, and added cucumber and celery. Still great. The dressing recipe make a lot!

  • Poke bowl salad

    • bwhip on June 13, 2025

These turned out great for us. They tasted quite fresh and delicious, and were very filling! I accidentally used half the quantity of rice (one cup versus two), and I actually think that was better for the ratios in the dish.

  • Panzanella

  • Bibimbap salad

    • jennifer_vszvd1 on March 23, 2026

I modified a lot in this based on what ingredients I had ready to go—I used ground beef (doubled) and cooked in the marinade as a sauce. I also omitted rice and egg. The marinade flavor is great and it also worked well as a sauce.

  • Hot girl salad

    • jennifer_vszvd1 on February 08, 2026

Modified a lot, but loved the result. Subbed egg for grilled chicken, sunflower seeds for toasted almonds, and green pepper for sweet bell pepper.

  • Avocado bruschetta

    • Xyz123 on June 20, 2025

This was so simple and I really enjoyed it.

  • Doradito salad

    • lean1 on April 21, 2026

Terrific salad. I used leftover tostada's, half a can of refried beans instead of canned beans and made it without the meat. Added roasted tomatoes instead of fresh and used 1/2 amount of dressing and that was plenty enough. Loved the dressing, it comes together real quick. Wonderful and and combination of many flavors. Will make it often.

  • Fish taco salad

    • bwhip on June 11, 2025

Delicious salad, with a nice blend of flavors and textures. I used cod, and didn't use the tortilla croutons or cheese. The only change I'd make for next time would be to cut the dressing quantity by about half, as I thought it was quite a bit more than needed.

Publishers Text

It all began when Darlene Schrijver was compiling her favorite salad recipes for her daughter who was off to college when a friend asked, “Why don’t you film the directions for making recipes instead and post them on TikTok? She’s always on there anyway.” Darlene started out making videos of classic and retro salads and thought it would be fun to measure the ingredients with test tubes and beakers since her daughter was a science major. She called her TikTok account The Salad Lab to encourage the spirit of experimentation. Soon, The Salad Lab’s following began to grow rapidly when Darlene would attempt to recreate a celebrity’s favorite salad or a recipe inspired by a dish from a restaurant.

From Bella Hadid to Kylie Jenner’s favorite salads to completely unique creations featured for the first time in The Salad Lab, Darlene’s careful instructions and smart salad-making tips are sure to inspire anyone to crave a healthy salad. All beautifully photographed, there are also drink serving recommendations for every dish, plus a section of staple recipes that can be turned to again and again for dressing and basics like Honey-Roasted Sliced Almonds, Cheesy Tortilla Croutons, Cilantro Lime Dressing, and her viral Green Goddess Dressing. Salads have never been more fun to make—or more delicious.
