Publishers Text

Marion Burro's column, Having Your Gravy and Eating It, Too, which appeared in the fall of 2001, struck a chord with readers everywhere. It reminded us why we often turn to familiar foods for comfort, and featured recipes with a contemporary twist on American classics. Cooking for Comfort was inspired by the overwhelming response to her column.

In this collection, Burros, who is known for her deeply flavorful foods, shares savory variations for perennial favorites like Arkansas fried chicken, luscious buttermilk mashed potatoes, a fool-proof lemon meringue pie, and the ultimate toasted cheese sandwich with cream of tomato soup. All the dishes have been tested and retested to ensure that they are simple and stress-free to make.
