Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Lemon blueberry trifle

    • twoyolks on July 02, 2020

The lemon goes nicely with the blueberries. Some thought it was too acidic but I found it well balanced. I liked this trifle but not as much as the strawberry one.

  • Oat crisps with blueberries and crème fraîche

    • tarae1204 on January 13, 2023

The recipe for oat crisps is so simple my 8 year old made it himself! It’s gluten free and addictively delicious. The crisps spread a lot and became one giant crisp, which I broke into pieces to serve rustic style with the blueberries and creme fraiche, and everyone loved it.

  • Peach streusel coffee cake

    • twoyolks on August 10, 2020

This is closer to a decent coffee cake with some peach cubes sprinkled on top. Not bad but not amazing.

  • Strawberry Grand Marnier trifle

    • twoyolks on May 23, 2016

This is a simple trifle with just pureed strawberries but it's still very good. The ingredients work well together and it really highlights the strawberries.

Publishers Text

The author of Stars Desserts and Four Star Desserts combines the best 150 dessert recipes from both books. Stars was a famous and very influential restaurant in San Francisco throughout the 80s and 90s, known especially for promoting California cuisine. The desserts there were legendary, and even though the first two books have been out of print for years, used copies sell for $100 and higher on eBay and Amazon.com. Recipes are organized by type including puddings and custards; chocolate; pies, tarts and pastries; cakes; cookies; and more, plus a foundation chapter of basic recipes that can be used throughout the book. In flavor and recipe execution, these desserts are the crème de la crème, the choice favorites of bakers all over the world.
