It's definitely a great resource.  I use it all the time.  Who said it wasn't a great resource?  Suggestions for improvement are also welcome, afaic.  Sermons, not so much. 

Not a sermon.. just observations on the reality of cookbooks and indexing .. which I've been doing since 2011. ;-) 

Where is the dividing line between an observation and a sermon?

I've indexed only 3 books so far and it is time-consuming.  I marvel at the members who take on big books and appreciate their hard work without any compensation.  

i would certainly volunteer more if recipe titles and page numbers are allowed without other info.  I bog down on other criteria along with ingredient list.

I personally would support this as an option for member indexing. I have 4 unindexed books I would index, were this an option.

Not likely, debkellie. Your  "observation" was neither religious nor moralistic, so bching must have had something else in mind :)

My bookshelf has 514 out of 653 books that are indexed so I'm pretty happy with that ratio. Of course, the organizer in me would love to have them all indexed but then I ususally check myself and laugh remembering that I won't live long enough to cook even a tiny percentage of the 137,560 recipes already in my EYB library. That's the thing about larger collections, at some point it is more about the collecting than the actual use. And EYB is defnitely a tool for use. My books are getting so much more attention from me now, I'm on here everyday. (Don't tell EYB, but I'd pay even more for this fantastic site).

Same here.  I always have EYB along with Copy Me That opened at all times on my ipad. Indispensible now for my love of cooking, cookbooks, and recipes. 

Actually, about member indexing, I agree it was tedious at first, but you get the gist of it eventually - it was pretty hard for me I would say for the first three or four books or magazines, but now (8 books, 4 magazines), it does get a lot easier and I actually enjoy 1/ getting more of my library available to search and 2/ increasing the number of books indexed for everyone.

My collection is really mixed between English and French books and magazines also, so I would never have them in the library if I didn't do it myself ! When I am indexing something I usually do it like 10 minutes a day or something like that, slowly, but surely (sometimes more, sometimes less evidently).

I know many people use ingredient list for searching but I am not usually one to do that and instead search by title.  For example today, I will search for champuru, chanpuru or Okinawa in title so being able to initially put in title and page work for me.
