We started indexing Donna Hay Magazine in April 2009 issue #44. It would be hard for us to get hold of earlier issues so we hope that members who own them and want the recipes indexed will volunteer to index them. You can read more about member indexing in the Member Indexers Manual in our Help section.

The rules may initially seem quite complex but a lot of it is common sense and the more indexing you do, the more the rules become ingrained. We do a lot of hand-holding at the start. Deborah will help you by checking your first 10 recipes and Sydney will do a complete proofread with feedback after you finish. Apart from the benefit of getting all those recipes into your searches, it is also a good way for you to familiarize yourself with those publications (and discover recipes you want to bookmark). Magazines are a good way to start indexing as the recipes tend to be quite simple and there are fewer than in a cookbook.

If you want to index any of those issues, email Deborah on deborah@eatyourbooks.com and she will set it up for you.

This blog post Darcie wrote in November 2018 discusses some of the massive tomes that have been indexed -- and now I also see Jane's list -- those are some big ones!

Recently joined and am disappointed to find so few Vegan / vegetarian magazines indexed. Please consider: Plantbased Magazine (prime impact). Vegetarian Living, Vegan Life Magazine, (Prime Impact) Vegan Food and Living (Anthem publishing)

Jane, Please can you add Sainsbury's Magazine to your bookshelf? It is a very good source for recipes and food advice and I have been a subscriber for over three years., Rosemary Wasserberg

Agree that Sainsburys Magazine would be a worthy addition.

Another vote for indexing Forks over Knives (quarterly).

Could EYB add “All Recipes” magazine? Thanks for considering!

Every month Real Simple Magazine publishes 4-6 seasonal recipes in their short Food section. I'd love to see these included/ indexed.

Each quarter, Manolia Journal includes four or five recipes. I would love to see those indexed.

ypganut23 - we only list magazines if they are going to be indexed. We don't tend to index special issues of magazines unless the publisher sends them to us. If you are interested in indexing any of them yourself, please do email us and we can add those issues to the EYB Library. If you would like to learn more about member indexing, you can do so here in Help.

I would like to see the New Zealand Healthy Food guide added. I have a lot of back issues, and can't see any way to manually add these either.

roseinthorns - we only add magazines if they are going to be indexed - either by EYB or by a member indexer. This is because all the data for magazines has to be added manually, whereas book data imports from Amazon (though still needs work to add missing data). It is unlikely we will index New Zealand Healthy Food Guide any time soon as you are the first EYB member to request it. However, if you are interested in indexing some issues yourself, please do email us and we can add those issues to the EYB Library. If you would like to learn more about member indexing, you can do so here in Help.

Hi Jane, that makes sense. As they have stopped publishing it, it's even less likely you would be intending to index them. I will email you through a list of the issues that I have.

I just subscribed to EYB after seeing an article about it at tidbits.com. I pulled out my stack of Eating Well magazine and was able to enter the issues from 2012 on. But I also have a bunch from 1993-1999. I don't imagine there's any chance those will be indexed, is there? Unfortunately, I don't have time to volunteer to do it myself.

SSteve - welcome! We don't plan to index magazines any further back right now. It's always possible that in the future we will have spare funds and be able to get hold of those back issues. But I'm not promising anything! I am hopeful that a member with spare time and the early issues will want to index them. We do have a member volunteer who is indexing older back issues of Food Network Magazine. If any member would like to do the same with EatinGWell or any other magazine, please email us with details of the issues.
