I'll have to try the magnification gestures - I knew there were some features of my phone I never tried.

But on the old EYB site there just wasn't that huge contrast in font sizes. Now that I've done an ingredient search on the new site, I can report that the recipe titles are of a very good, readable size, but the lists of ingredients for a recipe are eye-strainlingly tiny.

And you have to expand every single recipe individually, as you go down. You can't just survey with your eyes to find out which recipes call for ingedients you don't have on hand. I wish there were an Expand All option.

This is all in Chrome. For all I know, the contrast in fonts may be less in the stock browser, but as long as EYB is literally unusable in the stock browser, I'll never know.

And THIS is why EYB is unusable in the stock browser:

Whenever I open a page in EYB, I can see it for about a second. Then a popup page, or part of one, appears, and I can't close it or even scroll it up or down. There is no close button. Tapping on either side of the popup doesn't change a thing. There is boldface text in the part of the popup I see, but no link. It appears on EVERY page of the EYB site that I've opened. Refreshing the page doesn't help.

N.B. I have popups disabled on my device.

Here is the text in the part of the popup I can see (sorry, I can't reproduce the boldface):

new look. For a quick tour to show what's new, click on the Next button.

It will take just 2 minutes, but if you haven't got time now - you can find the "New Features Guide" in "Need Help?" section - bottom right hand corner of your screen.

We love feedback! Let us know what you think of the new site,

(Yes, the visible text ends with a comma.)

Jane, did you just rework something at the site? Thank you, thank you, thank you!

I just returned to EYB in the stock browser; this time the popup fit the page, with the x accessible so I could close the box.

Now I can tell you why I had an easier time before. In the stock browser, there isn't that horrendous disparity between font sizes - the fonts are all easy on my eyes. Some sites are better in Chrome; EYB is better in the stock browser.

But having to expand each item on a list one at a time is still a nuisance - how about Expand All and Collapse All?

I really miss the new books , blogs, magazines newly indexed and only being able to easily see so few member notes is sad.. I guess I'll adjust .. most people do not like change!!

Thank you so much for fixing the zoom and for clarifying how to exclude ingredients! I didn't know how to do that before, or that you could, and I love it!

@debkellie, are you talking about not seeing new notes and books/magazines on the homepage? Because one of the best new features with the upgrade is that the member notes don't get cut off. And you can still go to the library to see books and find the newest books indexed...

While I really love EYB and joined as lifetime member back in the beta stage of its development, I am sorry to say that I'm not a fan of the new look. My major concern is how search results are displayed. The new format just takes up too much space and requires a lot of scrolling through to see all the options. This is particularly annoying when you're standing in the grocery store and using your phone! The inclusion of photos in the search results just exacerbates the issue. While some users may appreciate that aspect, I'd love to have an opt-out option for the photos. I also agree with other posters that the home page is cluttered and too busy. All in all, the changes will likely result in my using EYB less as it's a pain on a phone and tablet. Unfortunately I willl probably only use EYB on a laptop now which greatly diminishes its value to me.

bittrette - glad to hear the zoom is working for you now. It was actually up before my last post but maybe you needed to sign in again to see it. I would love to hear from other members too on whether an Expand All and Collapse All option would be helpful on the phone before I pass it on to our developer.

debkellie - I think we know from the posts in this topic that a lot of people don't like change! You say you see so few Notes on the Home page but the list of EVERY Note is now available with just one click. Since before you had to click to each new page of 5 Notes (and only saw 15 in total) surely one click to see all is better? Newly indexed books is the default sort on the Library books tab (and your Bookshelf), and for magazines the default sort is latest added. For both magazines and blogs a sort by Latest indexed is easily done by clicking the Sort box on the right under the green search bar (from the menu option on phones).

TrishaCP - thanks for the comments and response to debkellie.

redbird - I'm sorry to hear that you will use EYB less because you don't like the new phone layout. Many EYB members like to see photos but I will enquire of our developer whether having a remove photos option is possible. I would love if you (and other EYB members who aren't keen on the new design) would give it a chance. It does take a little while to adjust to change but I hope you will find that the new features on the phone more than compensate for any drawbacks. And we will be endeavoring to fix the drawbacks (as we have with the zoom).

I miss the old standard view with new pictures.  The new standard view has it's perks for sure, but I wish it had been added as a separate option.  However, I do think the display on my phone is much improved. The home page scrolls so nicely that it almost seems as if the site were developed for phones and feels a little off when using it on a laptop.

Thank you, Jane. BTW my username is bittrette - two double t's - after the bittersweet chocolate mini-chips I'm trying in vain to find :)

bittrette - Apologies for mis-spelling - now corrected

Yildiz100 - could you clarify what you mean by "old standard view with new pictures". The default view on the Recipes tab on the old site did not show photos - you had to click the Online filter to see them. Or have I misunderstood what you are saying?

Thank you for the new site improvements, I am loving the home page having all things easily accessable. The better designed search engine giving lots of scope to adapt my search to a more specific one rather than a general search thus resulting in a better outcome saving time by getting a more accurate result.

Sorry to be negative, but it's pretty slow on my Nexus 5 phone, and photos take quite a while to load, even though I have 4G phone signal. What's also very odd, writing this post, the line of text goes on and on and on....much wider than my phone's screen. Not easy to use...please fix.

Mayafairbanks - so glad to hear everything is working well for you.

lindaharrower - we are currently upgrading our server and response times should be a lot faster after that is completed. We haven't come across that never-ending text issue before. Could you please confirm what phone model and browser you are using?

So glad the zoom is back on iPad! After using the site for a week, I do like the changes.
#97 Posted : Saturday, April 30, 2016 9:26:15 AM(UTC)
I just ran into an odd change for the new site on my IPad this morning as I was browsing through the book section in the library. I used to like to tap the little heads icon with the number beside it showing how many members had a book and see who had the book on their shelf. But that function seems to have disappeared both in the library and on my bookshelf. All the little head icons are gray and if you tap them it just takes you to the list of recipes in that book. This isn't essential but would be nice to have back again.
#98 Posted : Saturday, April 30, 2016 10:06:20 AM(UTC)

Actually, the glitch hillsboroks reports happens for me on the laptop as well:  clicking on the 'heads' takes you to book view, but you still have to tap again on the 'Bookshelves' tab to see the members who have that book. Same is true for the stylized balloon that shows how many notes have been made on the book and its recipes -- clicking takes you to book view, where you then click on the 'Notes' tab.  I'm honestly not sure whether this used to be a one-click process or not...

The 'chain' icon displays the linked books, and clicking it again toggles back to not showing them, and the 'plus' icon takes you directly to the dropdown list for adding a bookmark.

While we're talking about extra clicks, I would like to express a preference:  in the previous version, when I clicked the 'plus' symbol to add a Bookmark, the drop-down dialog would appear, and I could immediately type the letter that the Bookmark begins with to be into the list.  Now I have to click the down arrow to enter that list, and it's a (minor) pain, as I'm a keyboard-focused user, and have to take my hands off the keyboard to use the mouse or touchpad to take care of the down arrow.

Likewise, once I've highlighted a Bookmark in the list that I want to select, I'd like to be able to do so by hitting 'Enter' to apply it, rather than having to click the 'Save' button.  Hitting the escape key makes the dialog box go away; hitting 'Enter' should apply the highlighted Bookmark. [To be clear, the enter-save feature is something I've asked for previously, but the having-to-hit-the-down-arrow in the dialog box is actually new with this version, so a step backward for the keyboard-centric.]

Clicking the Bookshelves (people) icon and the Notes icon should take you to that tab on the details page and that is a bug we already have logged with our developer.

And the Bookmarks functionality issues are also on his list.

Thanks for the feedback - it all helps make the site better.

I personnaly am not fond of the photos.
They make me scroll more.
I wonder if there is a way to turn them on and off

Bookmarking bug? When bookmarking a recipe that I already have a category for it works perfectly, but I can't seem to be able to add a new category. I am using ipad 2.
