Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Aunt Patty's coffee cake

    • spharo00 on March 09, 2012

This is my favorite coffee cake. It is always moist and the chocolate-coffee swirl in the middle is so delicious!

  • Bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich, New York City deli style

    • spharo00 on May 26, 2012

My favorite way to eat this is with cheddar cheese and a blueberry bagel. So yummy!

  • Baked chicken with honey-whole-grain mustard glaze

    • Cheri on March 25, 2013

These were simple and quite good. Used whole grain mustard with sweetness coming from a hit of maple syrup and touch of honey for the glaze. I'll bet if you had extra, these would also make nice cold picnic food.

  • Caramelized cauliflower (fancy)

    • spharo00 on January 27, 2013

I love roasted cauliflower and the addition of capers was really a surprising change from the norm. It was salty and briny and I love the way the capers sort of pop in your mouth. I left out the golden raisins and parsley because I didn't have any, but the dish was just fine without them.

  • Chicken enchiladas salsa verde

    • bigwerk on June 12, 2011

We use premade Salsa Verde and add sauteed onion and peppers to the filling

  • Chicken Parmesan

    • Kfaber on September 14, 2014

Very good recipe for chicken Parmesan- sauce is amazingly good. Quite a lot of prep work and clean up though, so best for Sunday night dinner.

  • Chicken soup and rice

    • bigwerk on June 01, 2011

Kids don't like the rice, prefer noodles.

  • Creamed spinach

    • Cheri on March 23, 2013

      Blah...

  • Creamy spiced oatmeal

    • spharo00 on March 31, 2012

The spices were really fragrant and gave the oatmeal a kind of chai taste. It did not make 4 servings, more like 2, unless you served the oatmeal with other dishes. I topped mine with toasted almonds, maple syrup, and a splash of cream.

  • Fat girl red rice

    • bigwerk on June 01, 2011

      added diced carrots

    • bigwerk on June 01, 2011

      added diced onion and carrot

  • German apple cake

    • Kfaber on September 06, 2013

Made this with peaches instead of apples. So easy to make and delicious.

  • Lentil vegetable soup

    • susankay on May 18, 2013

It is wonderful as is, but the croutons make it eye-rolling excellent!

  • No-bake peanut butter-rice krispies cookies

  • Oatmeal chocolate chip cookies

    • bigwerk on June 22, 2011

these are outstanding simple cookies. Would not change a thing except we used chocolate chunks as we prefer big chunks of choc in our cookies.

  • Steak pizzaiola

    • marym on May 15, 2011

This steak pizzaiola is a home run!

    • jimandtammyfaye on July 08, 2023

This recipe page has been splattered from years of use. As delicious as it sounds! Cooks low and slow, producing tender and flavorful beef.

  • Tangy sweet salmon and rice salad

    • Kfaber on August 25, 2013

The best summer salad- awesome flavors!

  • Tessy's banana bread

    • ComeUndone on August 24, 2010

Love the spicy sweet topping. Added in a handful of toasted walnuts too. Good recipe because it only uses 1 banana.http://www.flickr.com/photos/wscwong/4920259283/

    • bigwerk on June 04, 2011

added mixed spice and 1/4 cup LSA to the bread - love this recipe

    • spharo00 on June 13, 2012

This bread is very moist, definitely more of a cake than a bread. The added spices really take this over the top and make it something special, without covering up the true banana flavor. This will be my go-to banana bread recipe from now on.

  • Thai-style fried rice

    • Kfaber on February 15, 2016

Super easy and fast recipe. Substituted broccoli for bok choy
