Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Pasta with broccoli, chile, and garlic

    • debkellie on May 14, 2015

Without the pine nuts this would be very boring. Not worth repeating.

  • Roast pork fillet with five-spice plum sauce

    • debkellie on May 13, 2015

This was pleasant, next time I'd cut back the five spice - it dominated the flavour. Served with the suggested stir-fried greens it made an OK week night meal.

  • Thai fish curry

    • MsSpicy on February 07, 2022

This is simply delicious! • Make sure to add about 2 tsp salt or more to curry • If using shellfish, doubling the amount is a good idea • If using fish, 1-1/2 times more is also good • Cook fish to medium. The reheating will finish it and avoid overlooking • This is best the next day

  • Beef Stroganoff

    • mjes on September 13, 2021

This is a tasty, well-balanced recipe for beef stroganoff. A new favorite.

  • Curried stew of sweet potatoes, pinto beans and cabbage

    • CamillaC on June 03, 2015

I used 2x 450g tinned beans for this which cuts the preparation time to just 20 minutes. With no overnight soaking required. When using tinned beans 1litre of stock is probably sufficient. I used Larich Dark Roasted Curry powder and 2T of this was a good amount. 1 medium kumara is close to twice the recipe amount, but we enjoyed this balance. Served over rice

Publishers Text

Nothing conveys our interdependence more compellingly than the food we eat. It builds our physical resilience, brings us joy, and strengthens our bonds with family and friends. The recipes in this uplifting book celebrate this truth. They come from the women living in the war-torn countries in which WfWI operate. Recipes also come from renowned international chefs such as Alice Waters, Maggie Beer and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, and humanitarians such as Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu, Emma Thompson, Richard Branson, Paul McCartney and Mia Farrow. Illustrated with stunning photography of the countries as well as the food, they cover everyday dishes, family meals, and recipes perfect for sharing and celebrating. They range from traditional Afghani flatbreads stuffed with falafel and Kosovan sticky doughnuts, to split pea soup, lamb burgers with mint and beetroot, and apple tea with cinnamon. Interspersed throughout are inspiring stories from the women whose lives have been changed through the intervention of WfWI. All the royalties from the book will support WfWI's farming and food training initiatives, as well as provide micro-financing in the eight countries in which WfWI operate - Afghanistan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Iraq, Kosovo, Nigeria, Rwanda and Sudan.
