  • Caponata-style Brussels sprouts

      I’ve never made shredded Brussels sprouts before but we really enjoyed these. Nice agrodolce flavours from the cranberries and vinegar and pretty easy to pull together. Just don’t expect the richness of a caponata. Update: I had the leftovers as part of my salad the next day and added a touch of balsamic, which took it to next level even though it was cold. Might try a 50/50 balsamic and red wine vinegar mix next time.

  • Pasta with sardines (Pasta con le sarde)

      This was ok, my boyfriend enjoyed it more than I did. The fennel flavour didn’t come through at all, I’m not sure if this is the fault of the recipe or the fennel? I’ll keep searching for my keeper recipe for this dish.

      IMHO the spice quantities need to be higher.

      Needed more spice - changed recipe to • 1 tsp ground cinnamon • 2 tsp ground ginger • 1 tsp ground nutmeg. I weighed ingredients and using trusty Edmonds cookbook. • 1 1/3 firmly packed cups (270g) brown sugar • 1 1/3 cups (200g) plain flour, sifted
