Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Easiest baked beans ever

    • julesamomof2 on January 12, 2021

Way way too sweet, especially so for the leftovers. Easy as advertised but won't be repeated or maybe leave out the sugar but probably just look for a different recipe with how infrequently we make them.

  • Pulled beef brisket

    • southerncooker on May 24, 2021

This was good. I used a local ale for the liquid.

  • Gator pot roast

    • pitterpat4 on December 08, 2021

Excellent roast. I used chicken stock instead of beef because it was what I had on hand.

  • One-dish broccoli and brown rice casserole

    • PinchOfSalt on October 25, 2021

Made the recipe exactly as written except black pepper for white pepper and water instead of low-sodium chicken stock. Set my 6-quart instant pot on low as directed by the recipe and slow cooked for 7 hours as directed by the recipe. The turkey and rice were cooked through, but the carrots (sliced about 1/8-3/16 inch thick) were still fairly firm; the layers did not combine at all so there was a layer of the cream of mushroom soup mixture quite distinct from the rest of the casserole. (One would have expected it to have bubbled up and down through the other layers.) To add to the failure, the dish as a whole was very lacking in salt. This may have been partially due to my substitution of water for the low-sodium broth but that alone would not account for the blandness. Overall, a recipe I will not attempt again.

  • Spring lamb and fresh spinach stew

    • southerncooker on December 31, 2019

I got some lamb stew meat on sale and decided to make this for son and I. Since we're the only lamb lovers in family I made half recipe. We ate it with some mini naan bread we got at Aldi. It was delicious.

  • Cocoa powder pork

    • Cookbooksgalore on May 14, 2023

If you want to avoid washing up, pour about a third of the salsa onto the pork shoulder as is, then put the chili powder, oregano and cocoa powder into the jar with the remnant, and give it a good shake, before pouring into the slow cooker and over the pork

  • Shepherd’s pie

    • rachel_7cq7lr on April 07, 2026

Swap the garlic powder and onion salt for 1-2 tbsp of Rosemary. Add worschire sauce 2 tbsp, swap chicken broth for beef.

  • Start and stop white bean turkey soup

    • southerncooker on December 28, 2019

Delicious. I soaked beans overnight then added all to my slow cooker before heading to work. Supper ready when I got home. Instead of 6 hrs on high I did 10 on low. Perfect.
