Kakigori (Shaved ice wirh flavored syrup) (pg 104) Sometimes one needs to make something simply for fun - shave ice with fresh strawberry syrup and lemon syrup colored with saffron hits the spot. And one taste will tell others that you didn't just open a bottle.

Notes about Recipes in this book

This was delicious! If I had had leftover rice, it would have been a matter of minutes to get it on the table. I used a mixture of broth and tea for the pourover liquid, and added sauteed zucchini for a vegetable. The umeboshi was my least favorite part, probably just an acquired taste. We topped with furikake and scallion-ginger-garlic sauce.
