Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Cabbage quiche with apple-radish salad

    • meggan on February 03, 2023

      quite delightful.

  • Sheet-pan orange tofu and broccoli

    • Frogcake on July 30, 2023

The orange soy sauce with shallots, garlic and honey is so good on the roasted tofu. Instead of broccoli I used cauliflower. Definitely a keeper vegetarian recipe!

  • Crispy salmon with fennel-date salad

    • Frogcake on July 30, 2023

Wow, this was delicious! Followed the recipe closely with one change - I added olive oil softened kale to the fennel combination. The tahini sauce is very , very good. In my opinion you could substitute the salmon with grilled lamb chops too.

  • Caribbean shepherd’s pie

    • ripleypickles on February 11, 2023

Delicious and flavorful. Ginger makes it. I skipped the slurry step and would do that again. I'd also probably add carrots, mushrooms, etc.

I substituted lower-sodium soy sauce for tamari and used a habanero chile with seeds removed, so it wasn't too spicy. Tasted on its own, the potato topping had an odd floral/fruity flavor, but that could be the coconut milk I used (Aroy-D in aseptic packaging, which I'd never tried before). But when everything was eaten together, we didn't notice that, and really enjoyed the unique flavors in this version of shepherd's pie. Usually I add vegetables, but didn't this time - served sauteed greens on the side, which went well with it.

  • Lemon-chile white fish with chickpeas

    • Stephenn31 on November 20, 2025

Not bad but not amazing. On the BA site there were a lot of comments about the lemon being too bitter, so I used preserved lemon and fresh lemon juice which worked well. Decent, quick one pan dish (I served with bread and added a bit of cabbage to the chickpeas for some veg) but not memorable.

  • Citrus-braised pork with crispy shallots

    • ripleypickles on February 04, 2023

Fantastic recipe. Orange juice/peel makes the whole dish, though I just used slices instead of breaking them down further.

  • Wedge salad with toasted sesame-seaweed ranch

    • anya_sf on December 05, 2023

Enjoyable, relatively light salad. Half the dressing was enough, although you might want more just because the iceberg waters down the flavor of the dressing. I would have liked a stronger sesame flavor - maybe sprinkle with seeds? Would also consider using a mixture of lettuces.
