      This was good, but not exceptional. We weren't convinced the walnuts were really a good idea. Maybe toasted almonds would work? The syrup was very intense, with good acidity from the lemon.

      This wasn't very good at all. Perhaps it was the fault of my pears, which were a little too ripe -- I was looking for a way to use them up quickly. But they didn't look attractive, the syrup was a murky beige, and they didn't taste that interesting either. I ended up binning half of them. Waste of a bottle of Muscat! Even with better pears I don't think it would have been exceptional. I'd have done better with the pears in saffron and vanilla syrup from Delicious Days, or Belgian Pears.
