Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Chili oil (La you)

    • Breadcrumbs on April 19, 2014

      p. 27 - 2 months ago I’d purchased the chilis with good intentions of making this oil but somehow I never got around to it. Now I regret that as we really love it! I especially love the instant sizzle and spicy, nutty aromas that fill the air as soon as you pour the steamy oil atop the chilis. This will be my go-to recipe for chili oil going forward. No need to buy the bottled version any more…this couldn’t be easier.

  • Simple egg drop soup (Dan hua tang)

    • PennyG on February 15, 2025

Very easy and tasty! I made this in about 10 minutes this morning to take to work in a thermos. True comfort food.

  • Black bean sauce chicken

    • Breadcrumbs on April 19, 2014

      p. 88 - Absolutely lovely. I recently enjoyed this dish in Beijing and was keen to make it at home since I enjoyed it so. After consulting a number of my books I landed on this recipe since it seemed to have the greatest potential to yield a finished product that would be similar to that I had in China. Kudos to Bee as this was a fine rendition indeed. mr bc and I agreed it was very good and we’d be happy to have it again. I used only red bell peppers as I’m not a fan of the green ones. • Cashew chicken (Yao guo ji ding)

    • Breadcrumbs on December 10, 2015

      p. 91 – Another successful dish from this book. The the recipe is terrific as is, it also lends itself well to modifications and one of my favourites is to spice things up a bit by adding a tsp of sambal oelek to the sauce and a couple of whole Tien Tsin chilies in with the veggies. Chopped red onion also makes a nice addition. A quick, delicious and satisfying meal. Photo here: http://www.chowhound.com/post/cooking-fall-2015-show-meals-1025190?commentId=9776828

Publishers Text

Growing up in a Chinese household in Malaysia where cuisine and culture were inseparable, Bee Yinn Low developed a deep love and appreciation for food. Her early memories of helping her mother prepare steamy and fragrant Chinese meals solidified into a way of life for Bee as a working woman in Southern California. A love of Chinese food didn't translate well to a modern Western lifestyle due to time and ingredient constraints. Rather than give up her favorite foods, Bee experimented with recreating the unforgettable flavors of her youth with her limited time and using ingredients found in local supermarkets. She managed to develop versions of her favorite Chinese dishes that had all the taste—but were a lot less work!

In Easy Chinese Recipes, Bee shares her passion and expertise in Chinese cooking. It features a collection of Bee's all-time favorite dishes—the foods she loves to cook and eat at home. She includes updated traditional family recipes along with her own versions of the best Chinese restaurant dishes from around Asia, such as Crispy Shrimp Dumplings, Kung Pao Chicken, Sweet-and-Sour Pork, Homestyle Chow Mein Noodles and Mongolian Beef.

Building off her passion, expertise and the avid following she has on her website, rasamalaysia.com, the Internet's most popular Asian food and cooking site, Easy Chinese Recipes is sure to become the go-to book for cooks interested in creating Chinese meals at home.
