  • Bacon-wrapped rice cakes with a jalapeño ponzu

I had ube rice cakes which made this interesting because they were a little sweet. The ponzu seemed intense when I tried it and so I tried to dial it back with a little sesame oil which was a bad idea because it wouldn't stick to the bacon. It would have been fine as the recipe was written.

Publishers Text

Korean food is enjoying a renaissance, and rightly so as it offers a real change from the more usual Asian cuisines of China, Thailand and Japan. Now is definitely the time to know your bibimbap from your bulgogi and Debbie Lee is the perfect guide through the incredible flavours and textures of her home-country cuisine. "Seoultown Kitchen" reflects her favourite thing about Korean food - small plates, simple and delicious, ideal for sharing with friends, which encompass Korea's full culinary range; sizzling kebabs served straight from the grill; luxuriant sauces; heart-warming noodles; its legendary pork belly and everything accompanied with pickles and kimchee, the signature side that delivers an unforgettably spicy kick. Debbie's easy-to-make recipes are inventive modern twists on authentic dishes - perfectly adapted for the western palate. Whether it's a comfort-food supper of soba or dumplings, or a weekend dinner of Kimchee Citrus Pork with Fuji Apple, there's something for every occasion, and a chapter of Korean-inspired Cocktails (Magnolia Mojitos) is the last word in Seoultown sophistication - perfect with your O-jubg-o Dup-bab (fried calamari and vegetables in a spicy sauce).
