Rice-mung bean soup from Beyond the Great Wall: Recipes and Travels in the Other China by Jeffrey Alford and Naomi Duguid

Where’s the full recipe - why can I only see the ingredients?

Always check the publication for a full list of ingredients. An Eat Your Books index lists the main ingredients and does not include 'store-cupboard ingredients' (salt, pepper, oil, flour, etc.) - unless called for in significant quantity.

When telling your friends you're bringing rice-mung bean soup as the main dish, make sure they know it's whole beans in a rice stew and not just bean sprouts floating in a thin rice broth, or they may anxiously drop a lot of money on meat to make up for the heartiness they mistakenly thought they would miss. Just a possibility.
