Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Simply poached chicken

    • TrishaCP on May 29, 2018

The technique was solid and the bay leaves definitely added a certain something to the chicken. I will use this technique again.

  • Spicy taco lasagna

    • rrwrites on March 26, 2017

Instead of red sauce, I used crushed tomatoes mixed with a little onion powder. I cooked the meat in my dad's seasoning mix with a squirt of cilantro paste. Delicious! Can make in two 8x8's instead

  • Chihuahua chili

    • Meags on September 25, 2024

This was great! The sauce was thick, like canned chili. Good heat. I only did a half recipe and had no beer handy, so I used 1/2 t of vegetable beyond bouillon and 6 oz water. I also didn't add meat. But it would be great with MSF crumbles too. Def contender for chili cook-off

  • Smoky multi-bean vegetarian chili

    • Meags on December 02, 2022

Good chili recipe, but nothing special. Since I have other chili recipes I like more, no need to make this again.

  • Spiced pumpkin flax bread

    • Meags on October 25, 2021

I made this with alterations - best pumpkin bread I've had! I cut the 2 c sugar to 1 c sugar and 1/2 c brown sugar. I added extra cinnamon and 1/2 t allspice. I used 2 c white flour, 1/2 c whole wheat flour and 1/2 c oat flour. Bake an hour.

Publishers Text

In today's fast-paced society, TV dinners and fast food can easily take the place of good home cooking. But with the help of one of the most underused appliances in most people's kitchen -- the freezer -- anyone can make and preserve about two weeks' worth of delicious home-cooked meals in a matter of hours. Jessica Fisher' s Not Your Mother provides the key to doing so. Fisher outlines 200 recipes for delectable breakfasts, lunches, and dinners through the method of batch cooking that saves both time and money.

This cookbook puts a modern spin on the age-old idea of freezing meals for later, and appeals to today's diverse tastes, providing recipes for not only chicken, beef, and pork, but also fish, shellfish, and vegetarian main courses. Fisher also details how to go about using the freezer to its full potential, giving information on the best freezer bags and, most importantly, how to thaw food safely after it has been frozen.
