Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Chicken satay (Sate ayam)

    • sharifah on August 27, 2012

Not bad, although not as sweet as most authentic Malaysian satays. I would add a touch more sugar next time, and slightly less turmeric depending on how strong your turmeric powder is. Tried the rice cakes also, it doesn't state how big your dish needs to be so you actually need quite a small dish in order to get thick rice cakes. My rice cakes were also quite grainy still so next time I'd add a touch more water than his prescribed amount. But all in all, turned out pretty good....

  • Steamed sea bass (Ikan stim halia)

    • sharifah on April 04, 2013

Disappointed with this recipe. The sauce was salty even though I didn't add the salt. And there was way too much sauce; about half the amount would do for 2 no sea bass. The sea bass was nice steamed, but I added a few slices of ginger in the cavity. Won't be making this again.

  • Beef in soy sauce (Daging masak kicap)

    • sharifah on June 22, 2012

REALLY nice and yummy!! It's quite a sweet dish, so maybe reduce the sugar next time. Taste better the next day. Even though the recipe states 'Serves 2' it actually serves 4 easily. Adding fried curry leaves at the end really completes the dish.

  • Beef korma (Kurma daging)

    • sharifah on September 03, 2012

Hmm, this was OK.....I think I made the mistake of using tamarind puree instead of tamarind juice. Even though I didn't used as much I could still taste the sourness coming through a little too strong. My mistake :-( I will try this again with a creamier coconut milk next time

  • Spinach, tofu & mushroom stir fry (Bayam & cendawan goreng)

    • sharifah on September 03, 2012

This had my favourite ingredients - dried shiitake mushrooms and fried tofu puffs. Loved it!! Even OH gave this 5 stars! What I did change though was to use the dried mushroom soaking water instead of the 100ml plain water he said to use, made it more mushroom-ey...hmmmm yummmm!
