Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Pea and ham hock soup

    • Lynnette on December 28, 2025

Made this with home smoked turkey legs in place of ham hocks. Adapted liquid quantities for Instant Pot preparation. Very good!

  • Bistro green salad with simple vinaigrette

    • angrygreycat on January 21, 2023

Good basic shallot vinaigrette salad dressing.

  • Roasted potato salad

    • emiliang on August 20, 2022

Simple and delicious. I grilled the potatoes instead of roasting them, left out the garlic and lemon, and used chives, parsley, and preserved lemon with mayo to taste.

    • lwburbach on January 31, 2026

I made the Roasted Potato Salad, Sort of! I had never thought of using roasted potatoes before. I added a little grainy mustard and part sour cream and part mayonnaise and a dried Dill blend. It was delicious! It seems like it would be good on it's own, but it's a great starting place too.

  • Cannellini bean and tuna salad with red onion

    • emiliang on September 22, 2021

Quick, easy, and delicious. Pair with some good bread and red wine.

  • Pasta with mushrooms

    • FJT on February 13, 2019

This made a delicious sauce, albeit mine really needed to be reduced further, but hunger won out!

  • Bolognese

    • Shannoncooks17 on September 05, 2019

Good sauce to make and easy.

    • austin_6rikx3 on March 06, 2026

If cooking for just two people, half the recipe! It made so much but it was amazing!

  • Cod baked with tomatoes and olives

    • FJT on July 30, 2021

A good solid recipe for a nice supper. We were watching Stanley Tucci's Italian series on CNN when I admitted to having two of his cookbooks, but being unsure if I'd ever cooked from them, so obviously I had to rectify that. EYB tells me I have made one other recipe, but a long time ago!

    • laura_0h27jd on February 26, 2026

      Simple and delicious!

  • Shepherd's pie

    • emiliang on September 20, 2021

This was really, really good. The cup of wine and the anchovies gave the dish a huge taste boost! Note that you don't need to chop the veggies in a food processor after sauteeing them - they'll be just fine as they are.

Used this recipe as a loose guide, but made lots of edits. Half beef and half lamb. Used a very gelatinous stock, as the serious eats recipe calls to add gelatin for mouthfeel. Used both thyme and rosemary, 1/3 tsp marmite, 3-4 shakes Worcestershire sauce, swapped tomato paste instead of canned tomatoes, pinch of nutmeg and a pinch of all spice. We also added the peas into the mix instead of on the side. Cheddar on top.
