Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Rhubarb cake with vanilla crème fraîche

    • cookedfromabook on May 23, 2026

A simple but substantial rhubarb cake that was easy to whip up on a rainy afternoon. The whole wheat flour adds some virtue and while the vanilla crème fraîche is a delightful topper it is just as good without it.

  • Roasted green beans with scallions

    • nutrica6 on November 29, 2024

This is so flavorful and delicious, yet basic. I made it as a Thanksgiving dinner side and it was lighter than a green bean casserole, perfect. I did have other dishes in the oven with it, which may have been why, but it took a couple extra minutes in the oven, maybe 25min instead of 20.

  • Lemon-tahini sweet potatoes and chickpeas

    • nutrica6 on November 29, 2024

This is almost like a salad, and I ate it at room temp. I liked the sweet potatoes in smaller pieces like in the directions, similar in size to the garbanzo beans. The dressing is really good too, and if you have extra is great as a salad dressing!

  • Cranberry-apple crumble with gingersnaps

    • nutrica6 on November 30, 2024

Nice twist on a classic apple crumble. The ginger cookies and cranberries add really nice flavor. I made 1.5x the recipe in a 9x13 dish and it needed an extra few minutes in the oven but otherwise no issues.

  • Shaved Brussels sprouts with bacon

    • nutrica6 on November 29, 2024

This was delicious. Definitely agree with cooking the bacon first. I got impatient and added the shaved brussel sprouts to the bacon but the bacon never got fully crispy.

  • Pear pie in cornmeal crust

    • nutrica6 on November 29, 2024

This is like an apple pie but sweeter. I really enjoyed it. The crust is the best part, easy to work with and absolutely delicious! The pie was beautiful too. I made the crust a few days early and froze it, which worked well. The pie did take about 10 min longer than instructions in the oven to brown the crust.
