  • Yoghurt flatbreads

    • Astrid5555 on January 16, 2023

Doubled the recipe, still resulted in only 4 flatbreads. Probably did not roll out thin enough. Did not bake through in the time specified and did not find that the miso added something special. Family liked it though.

Super quick & easy using few ingredients. My goto yoghurt flat bread recipe.

    • gboden on May 27, 2026

      Easy and good

  • One-cup pancakes

    • ChelseaP on November 20, 2022

      So fast, easy and delicious.

  • Fennel seed and lemon pastries

    • Sinu on August 14, 2025

      Brilliant little pastries!

  • Cake for coffee

    • Indio32 on October 17, 2021

When I first opened this book in the shop it opened at this recipe..... obviously had to be the first I tried! Used (Waitrose) strong wholemeal bread flour as it needed using up. Was super duper easy to make using a stand mixer. Needed about 6/7 minutes of extra baking which I put down to the wholemeal flour. Can confirm it's excellent with a cup of coffee especially as the wholemeal flour gives it a bit more heft. It didn't taste particularly sweet but would like to somehow reduce the 1/4 kg of sugar in the recipe next time. Will definitely make again.

YUM. Everything on hand in the pantry. A beautiful simple cake.

    • Sinu on October 04, 2025

First time making this and Iove it! So simple, perfect for breakfast. I've used 200 sugar, instead of 250. 1 tsp grand marnier instead of the orange zest and a mix of butter, salted butter, and evo oil - used what I had on hand. Wouldn't change a thing.

  • Soft amaretti

    • Boffcat on November 07, 2022

Delicious - my sugar and egg white mixture never seems to make soft peaks, but the amaretti still work. (You must need to go very heavy on the icing sugar, though - the first time I made these, all trace of the icing sugar disappeared in the oven! I haven't bothered adding it since, as they're sweet enough without it). Very good made with soft brown sugar in place of the caster sugar.

  • Lemon Earl-Grey polenta loaf

    • katmagdunn on May 07, 2025

I made this in a round tin instead of a loaf tin, and it stayed a bit wet and raw in the middle which means I kept it in too long and overbaked the rest. It was still GOOD just a little too dry. Perhaps don't go off piste like me and do make sure you make in a loaf tin.

  • Thumbprint cookies

    • ChelseaP on July 07, 2022

Absolutely divine! Everything I've been making from this little gem of a baking book has been wonderful. Huge fan of Jessica's cookbooks.

    • Sinu on November 12, 2025

Made these w hazelnut flour, sage, and lemon and orange zest. Topped them with my quince jam, an almond, or a tiny bit of hazelnut butter. I found the cookies slightly dry at first, but the texture did improve after an overnight rest on the counter. Overall, I think this is a great recipe - quick, easy, perfect for real life.

  • Elliott’s sea salt chocolate cookies

    • macy_a03dox on June 03, 2026

best chocolate chip cookie recipe ever. I mean it!

  • Grapefruit drizzle loaf

    • jessica_qyreaf on January 17, 2026

This cake was okay. Tasted a little eggy out of the oven but better the next day. Lasted well as a cut and come again cake.

  • My go-to brown sugar sponge (with seasonal fruit)

    • Boffcat on October 27, 2024

Please learn from my mistake, and don't follow the recipe as written! It tells you to beat the butter, sugar and eggs together "until smooth and fluffy", rather than creaming the butter and sugar before adding the eggs. The result is that you're never going to achieve "smooth and fluffy", and you've lost the opportunity to aerate the mixture. I'm worried the cake will be unpleasantly dense as a result, but will report back once we've eaten it.

  • Marmalade sourdough pudding

    • kbrooks on November 11, 2024

Absolutely yummy. And couldn't be easier to make. Great way to use up a hunk of leftover sourdough bread.

  • Elliott’s flourless chocolate cake

    • ChelseaP on July 08, 2022

      Decadant and divine!
