Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Coconut cupcakes 2

    • meggan on April 21, 2021

I made these with my 6 yo. She was able to follow the directions and do most everything herself and, as a bonus, these are very moist and delicious.

  • Chocolate cut-out cookies 2

    • meggan on October 31, 2023

There is something very off with this recipe. First of all, they taste like nothing and second the dough was so crumbly and impossible to roll that the cookies all broke. Last, it says this batch makes 48 cookies. That would only be true if you were cutting using tiny cookie cutters. Using mid sized bat cookie cutters, this made 12 cookies.

  • Cinnamon cupcakes

    • tarae1204 on October 29, 2022

These cinnamon cupcakes came out well. Easy child-friendly recipe that produces a nice light cupcake with depth from the buttermilk and the just right balance of cinnamon. The accompanying pumpkin frosting is very soft, so it spreads easily.

  • Pumpkin frosting

    • tarae1204 on October 29, 2022

Interesting recipe, with a lower powdered sugar to butter ratio than standard. The pumpkin purée and brown sugar create a very soft frosting (best for eating same day it’s made), and the recipe produced double what I needed for 18 cupcakes. However, we got a lot of compliments on these cinnamon cupcakes with pumpkin frosting as they were full of flavor, and not overly sweet.

  • Trick or treat quakes

    • tarae1204 on November 06, 2022

Recipe calls for only ice cream and candy bars - but I found it needed some liquid so as not to overwork my small, older blender. Tasted like a more perfect version of a McFlurry, just delicious.

  • Apple-a-day cereal squares

    • tarae1204 on November 13, 2022

Delicious and easy! Crunchy/sweet, warm spices from the cinnamon cereal and bits of tart sweet dried apple. Microwaving the marshmallows and butter is a little dicey - don’t do it if your microwave is small or you don’t own a large glass bowl. Just don’t.

  • Cinnamon butterscotch cookies

    • tarae1204 on October 29, 2022

I appreciate that this recipe teaches a child how to make a simple cookie with just two bowls and a spoon! However, waiting for the butter to be super soft so a kid can do the butter-sugar creaming by hand does later on create a greasy and thin cookie. No way my 8 year old baker could wait to chill the dough in the fridge. They’re delicious and very sweet.

  • Bird bread

    • zacharyzachary on March 27, 2021

This is basically an everything bagel pound cake. The onion powder could easily be left out if the goal is to make this more kid friendly.
