Notes about Recipes in this book

  • The perfect poached egg

    • Happykikkers on September 28, 2024

Decent technique for poaching eggs. Will use again.

  • Harissa eggs with rainbow chard

    • Happykikkers on September 28, 2024

Used kale instead of chard. Used the poached egg technique from the book which worked out nicely. Taste was good but not anything too complex, which is fine because this was quite quick to put together. Will add more harissa oil next time.

  • Overnight oats

    • Happykikkers on October 13, 2024

This is my go-to overnight oats. Not slimy at all. It’s nicer and more filling with a topping but can definitely be eaten without in a pinch. Have not made the recommended maple granola yet but will try it out together soon.

  • Lemon and rose semolina cakes

    • debkellie on September 23, 2023

Definitely quick & easy, tasty & exceedingly sweet. The end product doesn't hold together very well - a crumbly texture: it's a dessert fork type of cake!

  • Harissa oil

    • Happykikkers on October 09, 2024

Easy. Would’ve liked more suggestions for its uses. It’s just hanging out in my fridge now.

  • Basilikum

    • debkellie on May 28, 2023

Swapped some home-grown turmeric for some lovely, fragrant limes... basil also in full stream... lovely cocktail! Thanks EYB & CKBK ;-)

  • Aleppo margarita

    • Happykikkers on September 14, 2024

A margarita with a sugar rim was questionable at first, but I liked it with the chili flakes. I did not have Aleppo so I used Urfa which gave it a smokey touch. Would add a little more ouzo next time.

  • Portokali

    • Happykikkers on October 22, 2024

This was ok. Won’t make again unless I have apricot brandy (used grand marnier, so maybe to much orange-flavour).

  • Halva hot chocolate

    • Happykikkers on October 09, 2024

Used Dutch cocoa powder, but it made the drink way too bitter. Will try again with actual hot chocolate powder.

Publishers Text

Brunch at Brother Marcus is a weekend institution in London, and here in their first book you can find out why. Tas and Alex take the flavours of the Eastern Med to make dishes worth getting out of bed for, from simple favourites like Menemen - a spicy scrambled eggs made with peppers and tomatoes - to the sublime: think Pulled Lamb Flatbreads or Rosti with Fried Chicken and Eggs.

Brunch with Brother Marcus also features recipes to make your own yoghurt, pickles, salt beef and breads as well as a drinks chapter that delivers both smoothies and fortifying cocktails such as the Brother Mary, or the alcohol-free Pomegranate Ginger Beer (sure to put a skip in your step). And there are sweets too, including traditional Baklavadika and a truly divine Portokalopita, an extraordinary orange filo pastry cake. You won't want to brunch with anyone else.
