Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Old-fashioned

    • Logan92995 on January 11, 2026

Decent, but I'm not a huge fan of whiskey cocktails

  • Monte Carlo

    • Logan92995 on January 13, 2026

Fine, but not really my sort of cocktail. Rye really overpowered the benedictine in this, and was really only saved when the ice cube had diluted the drink a bit,

  • Blended strawberry syrup

    • peaceoutdesign on August 13, 2023

I followed the process but added 5 dashes of Peychauds and 3 dashes of Angostura, adding depth. (the recipe ended up being a blend with Bartender's Manifesto's version)

  • Pineapple gum syrup

    • ndschmidt on April 04, 2026

Great technique and result. This syrup is the very essence of pineapple. I can’t wait to make a Pisco Punch with it.

  • Manhattan

    • Logan92995 on January 03, 2026

Good recipe, but the Manhattan just isn't a drink that really appeals to me -- much too whiskey forward for my tastes, considering rye is one of my least favorite of the main liquors.

  • Strawberry Negroni

    • peaceoutdesign on August 29, 2023

I used the blended syrup from Codex on pg 47 and doubled it to 1/2 oz. It was murky but delicious.

  • Old pal

    • Jane on February 21, 2026

Nice! Easy to make - just 3 ingredients, stirred over ice. Well balanced.

  • Fresh gimlet

    • et12 on April 01, 2023

I preferred this one to the daiquiri as I found the bitterness of the gin, combined with the acidity of the lime and the sweetness of the sugar syrup created a more balanced drink.

  • Hemingway daiquiri

    • Baxter850 on April 11, 2020

Great specs. A mashup of this and the Nomad specs are my go to Hemingway Daq specs.

    • Logan92995 on January 11, 2026

      Great version of the daiquiri

  • Southside

    • Jane on March 25, 2019

I should have double strained this as the flecks of mint were not attractive. A refreshing drink with mint and lime.

  • Cat video

    • crowlands on March 08, 2026

I used crème de violette instead of crème Yvette. While I like floral flavours in general, this wasn’t quite to my taste and was a bit sweet for me. It’s possible the lemon and lime I used were on the sweet side.

  • High five

    • peaceoutdesign on January 17, 2025

      This is a keeper.

    • jenburkholder on February 23, 2026

Made with Campari as I didn't have Aperol - very good, bitter not too pronounced, just really well balanced.

  • Grapefruit Collins

    • jenburkholder on July 08, 2021

Very nice; refreshing. The bitters bring a lot to the drink.

  • French 75

    • Baxter850 on July 24, 2020

Good specs; champagne heavy (prefer gin forward).

  • 20th Century

    • et12 on August 17, 2025

      Like a fruity cocoa drink.

  • Last word

    • Baxter850 on August 09, 2020

Classic equal portion specs. Same as D&C except no gin specified. Prefer to up the gin to 1 oz and prefer Tanqueray over Beefeater.

    • peaceoutdesign on August 30, 2024

A favorite. Substitute Mezcal for the gin and have an Ultima Palabra

  • Crop top

  • Lily pad

    • peaceoutdesign on February 01, 2025

I had a basil simple syrup that I wanted to try so this cocktail ended up being the guinea pig. I used an extra .25oz gin because I didn't have the Chareau Aloe Liquer and wasn't really enticed to purchase it. The cocktail was alright and maybe muddling a little cucumber might help to make up for the missing liqueur.

    • crowlands on March 02, 2026

This is such a refreshing, spring-coded drink. I will absolutely make it again!

  • Pegu Club cocktail

    • Jane on March 25, 2019

This was a well balanced cocktail with sourness of lime, fruity sweetness of Cointreau and two types of bitters. One I will repeat.

    • et12 on April 02, 2023

I thought this was ok but could have used some added sweetness

    • jenburkholder on April 06, 2026

This was pleasant, I also think a touch of sweetness might have balanced it a bit though that may have been my substitutions at fault - I used Curacao and grapefruit bitters instead of the called-for Cointreau and orange bitters.

  • Corpse reviver #2

  • Chatham cocktail

    • peaceoutdesign on October 19, 2024

Interesting use of champagne, the combination tasted a bit exotic.

  • Blood and sand

    • et12 on March 11, 2023

Had the ingredients and thought I would give it a try. Not bad. A slight bitterness and not too sweet. Good use of soft citric acid via the orange juice.

  • Americano

    • jenburkholder on July 09, 2021

Delicious - light, refreshing, not too alcoholic (but not too mild, either!)

  • Grasshopper

    • Baxter850 on May 15, 2020

Too sweet for me, although I subbed Brizard creme de cacao. Add 1/2 oz heavy cream (and maybe 1/4 tsp Fernet with a pinch of salt).

  • Little victory 2

    • crowlands on March 13, 2026

Stiff and sweet. This is the exact same recipe as the one on page 77; it simply appears twice in the book. As of this writing there’s an ingredient error - it should call for Cocchi Americano Bianco.

  • Peach boy

    • crowlands on March 06, 2026

Really refreshing and perfect for that impatient-for-the-snow-to-be-gone feeling.

  • Root beer-infused Cocchi Americano

    • crowlands on March 13, 2026

Absolutely delightful! Can’t wait to try it in a 20th century. Tried it in a Little Victory. There’s an error in the ingredients - the book calls for Cocchi Americano Bianco, not Rosa.
