Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Taiwanese savory egg crepe (Dan bing)

    • Melissa_427 on April 05, 2024

I didn't have tapioca startch so substituted cassava flour as per a Google recommendation. My battery was a little thick, so my crepes didn't spread as well as they may have (I'll try cornstarch next time) but regardless, this was a lovely way to start the day and I will happily return to this number for future breakfast desires!

  • Spicy chicken salad (Mala jirou shala)

    • hkasdan on May 08, 2026

Have made multiple times… excellent but I usually switch out romaine for baby spinach. Just preference but any green works.

  • Miso honey-glazed salmon (Weizeng mi zhi guiyu)

    • athena_0c465i on February 24, 2026

Tasty and very quick and easy!

  • Daikon cake (Luobo gao)

    • katrina_jhypqm on April 08, 2026

changed the fillings - did mushroom, chinese sausage. post steaming I pan fried and then refried with peppers, scrambled eggs, oyster mushrooms and xo sauce. delicious

changed the fillings - did mushroom, chinese sausage. post steaming I pan fried and then refried with peppers, scallions, oyster mushrooms and xo sauce. delicious. can also add scrambeled eggs

  • Traditional Taiwanese sticky rice (Taishi you fan)

    • katrina_jhypqm on March 17, 2026

used mixins: chinese sausages, taro, mushroom, dried shrimps

  • Taiwanese popcorn chicken (Yan su ji)

    • athena_0c465i on May 17, 2026

I make this recipe often. Really enjoy it! Though my kitchen is always a mess after I make it

  • Taiwanese braised pork rice (Lu rou fan)

    • eileentien on January 03, 2025

This recipe has quickly become a favorite in our home! The dish perfectly captures Taiwan's authentic flavors, with the rich and savory braised pork melting into the fragrant rice. It's simple to prepare yet incredibly delicious, bringing comfort and nostalgia to every bite. My family absolutely loves it, and it’s now a regular on our dinner rotation.

Wow, this was good. It was actually quite easy to put together as the braise does most of the work. I attempted to fry the shallots but be careful, those go from perfect to burnt especially with carry over cooking. I used store bought fried shallots as an emergency substitute and probably wouldn't know the difference. The major flavor notes are soy and five spice. I would definitely make this again.

  • Pan-fried crispy pork buns (Sheng jian bao)

    • sophie_cxjkmz on March 01, 2026

This recipe would be good if the dough was very thin but when I made it, I made the dough too thick so it was too bready. Next time use store bought dough.
