      I had some leftover chicken breasts that had been baked in an Asian marinade and this was a great way to use them. My husband and I really liked the combination of flavors in the dressing. I excluded the 2 tablespoons of sugar initially, thinking this might be a good dish for my brother who eats no sugar at all. Unfortunately, the dressing wasn’t that great without a little sweetness. I don’t like sweet salad dressings and this one does not have a very sugary flavor. I did not include sesame seeds because my husband doesn’t care for them. Otherwise, I followed the recipe exactly. Very good!

      This is a great party drink for kids and adults, but is best diluted. If you add only the quart of water called for in the recipe, not only will the lime be too strong for some, but you won't get 12 drinks, either. Use at least two quarts of water, sparkling (festive!) or still. Also, the limes I had were hard and difficult to juice. It took me more than 20 minutes to juice more than 30 limes to get two cups! So beware - this drink could be more work (and more costly) if you don't have access to good juicy limes.

      Error alert! The online recipe on the Epicurious site incorrectly calls for 1/2 lb rhubarb. The correct amount, 3 1/2 lbs, is listed in the magazine. The volume listed, 10 cups, is correct. If you follow the correct recipe, this is a wonderful, refreshing spring drink - like a homemade rhubarb ginger ale, but not too heavy on the ginger. Since I prefer drinks that aren't very sweet, I would also decrease the sugar by about a half cup, but even made as is, it's not as sweet as most commercial sodas.

  • Praline ice cream sandwiches

      OK, these treats require a fair amount of effort; you have to make the praline, then make the cookies (or rather, one or two massive sheet cookies), cool, fill with ice cream, freeze, then cut into bars before serving. But you will not be disappointed; these ice cream sandwiches are pure bliss to eat. While the recipe calls for spreading the cookie batter out over two jelly roll pans, I find that it works well using only one. The thicker batter still bakes well, and nobody I know has complained that the praline cookie layers on their sandwich were too thick. No one has complained at all.

  • German-style potato and ham salad

      Delicious! In fact, I ate way too much of this! I had only russet potatoes that, of course, kind of fell apart when I gently tossed them with the other ingredients. The fluffiness of the potatoes also drank up the dressing. I will definitely use firmer, waxier potatoes next time. I used dill pickles rather then sweet gherkins called for in the recipe, which turned out great. This makes a nice big bowl and I’ll make it again!
