  • Not-your-Grandma’s banana bread

    • bwhip on December 05, 2023

Very delicious and interesting banana bread recipe! The millet gives it a great crunch, as does the coarse sugar topping. I used whole wheat flour. Fairly dense, but in a good way. I'll make this again.

  • Brown butter mini muffin financiers

    • bwhip on December 03, 2023

Easy, simple, delicious, with great flavor and texture. Like most financiers, they’re amazing warm from the oven, really good the first day, and more like soggy cake the next (although still with good flavor).

  • Salted brown butter chocolate chunk cookies

    • Running_with_Wools on December 29, 2023

The best chocolate chip cookies I've ever made. The rye flour, browned butter, and coffee give them a balanced umami. Texture is perfect.

  • David’s chocolate-raspberry cake

    • aimeekitty on May 18, 2023

One of the best chocolate cakes ever. Tastes great on its own too with no frosting.

  • Almond-buttermilk layer cake

    • mdcbakers on March 28, 2022

This cake is AWESOME. Rave reviews from everyone. It tastes like gourmet wedding cake (it literally reminded one taste tester of their wedding cake!). I made a version without the lemon curd, and one with. Both were delicious. My new go-to for a super fluffy but stackable layer cake.

    • aimeekitty on May 18, 2023

Absolutely love this cake, it’s one of my favorites ever. I agree that it tastes like a gourmet wedding cake!

Publishers Text

Finding a recipe for every mood is easier than ever with this outstanding collection of sweet and savory treats. Ruth's decadent, crowd-pleasing recipes offer suggestions on different variations and flavor combinations you can try out to suit any craving. While each of Ruth's recipes is a stand out in its own right, the versatility of her inspired variations allow you to make tweaks based on what ingredients you might already have on hand or simply your own personal preferences.

If, for example, you've mastered her flaky, tender Raspberry-White Chocolate Scones and are interested in a scone just as tasty but with a different flavor profile, you're in luck--Ruth's variation suggestions tell you all you need to do to tweak the recipe for a citrus version with lemon and blueberry or a savory scone with cheddar and scallions. With her masterful base recipes and substitution instructions, you can choose the flavors and mix-ins that excite you the most and be confident that no matter what choice you make, the result will be irresistible.

From sweet treats like Salted Brown Butter Chocolate Chunk Cookies and Blueberry-Lemon Sour Cream Pie to savory creations like Cheese Twists and Herb Buttermilk Biscuits, Ruth's recipes will give you all the options you need for varied, creative and--most importantly--tasty baking.
