Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Brown lentils (Sabit masoor dal)

    • janet_x28jp9 on April 09, 2026

I’ve cooked this many times using different types of green pepper. This time was with poblano (2 since they are large). I really liked it and may just use this regularly now. Overall the recipe is very easy and a good workweek meal. My whole family loves it.

  • Potatoes, cauliflower and peas (Aloo gobi mattar)

    • Lepa on September 27, 2022

This was very bland and disappointing. We barely finished what was on our plates.

  • Nine-jewel korma (Navratan korma)

    • lena_yd5pwv on February 01, 2026

Can’t quite crack how to incorporate the nuts without the grit

    • katewalton on March 18, 2026

A simple dish but one that really grows on you.

  • Spiced leg of lamb (Sikandari raan)

    • ALawson25 on January 14, 2025

Used boneless lamb leg (600g or so) as it was what I had. It tasted good and was flavourful. Unusually I might actually tone down the amount of the spice mix as it was almost overwhelming. It was in the oven at 160 fan for about 2hrs 15 and it was perfect

  • Chicken with fenugreek leaves (Methi chicken)

    • TrishaCP on December 22, 2022

I had to make some adjustments (no onions) due to current dietary restrictions, but I thought this was incredibly delicious. There was just the right amount of fenugreek to perfume but not overwhelm the dish. I used ground byadgi chile and whole sannam chiles and I thought the heat level was perfect.

    • klipper on July 16, 2023

Wonderful - it’s like the best flavours of a Murgh Makhani without all the butter & cream. It’s quicker, too! I ended up doubling the amount of methi, as I love its earthy flavour and the depth it brings. Huge hit with the family.

    • janet_x28jp9 on April 02, 2026

Love this recipe. Very straightforward to make and very delicious.

  • Spiced cauliflower (Gobi masala)

    • janet_x28jp9 on February 27, 2026

I added an extra dried chili. Otherwise I followed it to a tee and it was really tasty. Flavorful and spicy.

  • Chicken kabab burgers

    • RRuth on April 20, 2026

Ten stars. Toasted the buns a bit in de burger pan, made a ‘sauce’ with tiny amount of mayo and homemade spicy green chutney for the lower half and put homemade mango chutney on the upper half. Will absolutely make again.

  • Eggs with spiced tomato gravy

    • lkgrover on March 30, 2024

Easy, flavorful vegetarian egg recipe; I served for breakfast.

  • Chickpea pulao (Channa pulao)

    • lkgrover on August 23, 2022

Good, flavorful rice dish with chickpeas & onions. Served with this book's Chicken with fenugreek leaves.

  • French beans with ginger (Adrak phulli)

    • RRuth on April 20, 2026

Fantastic. Made with runner beans (that I slightly overcooked, mind amount of water next time, they were done before water had evaporated). The mint and lime work very well and make it different from my (Meera Sodha’s) green bean staple with ginger, sesame and mustard seeds.

A new cookbook from the star of Netflix's Chef's Table and one of the world's most prominent female chefs

A heart-warming cookbook of comforting aromatic Indian flavors: Indian food from home, cooked with heart.

Ammu is a collection of recipes from Asma Khan’s childhood, her Indian family kitchen. It is a celebration of where she comes from, of home cooking, and the inextricable link between food and love. It is also a chance for Asma to honor her ammu mother and to share with us the recipes that made her and rooted her to home.

This book is a joyful celebration of memories of food, and its power to heal, restore, and comfort. It includes her ammu's comfort food from childhood, the recipes with which she was taught to cook, celebratory food for special occasions, and slow-cooked recipes passed through the generations of her family.

The recipes and the memories she shares all possess something that is universal: food is a way for us to have this conversation about how similar we all are how it connects us and unites us beyond differing appearances, accents, races and backgrounds. With stunning food and family photos, this cookbook is a must-have for cooks and lovers of Indian food.
