Notes about Recipes in this book

  • A note on soaking beans and whole grains

    • Ganga108 on November 23, 2024

A nice explanation about beans, and why they should be soaked first. It is not all about cooking time. Whether to add salt or not during cooking is controversial - some say it slows cooking, others say it does not. Solla prefers to salt at the end. I like my beans to have a little salt during cooking.

  • Almond milk

    • Ganga108 on November 23, 2024

It has been years since I made almond milk, so this has inspired me to do it again for this week's smoothies.

  • Hemp milk

    • Ganga108 on December 02, 2024

Nice. A little bit thin, perhaps. I have another recipe that uses slightly more cashews than hemp seeds by weight, which would help. (It also adds a touch of vanilla - that would be a nice addition.) The vitamix is really good at blending milks leaving little pulp. I am using this for smoothies with all sorts of things in them, so am not bothering with straining. If I was using it to drink, in recipes, or for "smoother" smoothies, I'd strain.

  • Oat porridge with rhubarb, kale, and cardamom

    • earthflesh on March 04, 2024

      This was definitely unique.

  • Cauliflower porridge with apple, mulberry, and cacao nib topping

    • earthflesh on March 30, 2024

This was surprisingly fine (and probably even better if you have pandan). I don't think I'd ever find myself craving it, but it's definitely a good no-waste cauliflower stem recipe.

  • Porridge pancakes

    • earthflesh on March 30, 2024

These are quick, easy, and healthy! I enjoyed them with cocoa almond butter and will have to try the suggested savory toppings next time.

  • Herbed quinoa

    • Ganga108 on July 06, 2025

Nice. I soak the quinoa for some hours before cooking.
