HOW TO EXTRACT POMEGRANATE SEEDS, P358. Not listed in the index. This is the method I use after trying several different ways, and is the easiest.

Even if you only have 10 cookbooks on your shelves, this has to be one of them.

  • Leo on September 26, 2024

The best thing about this book is that the ideas / recipes don't call for a load of strange ingredients. If you cook, you will have the store cupboard to cope. Also a good one for weekly veg box ideas. I have high hopes of this one.

Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Apple scrap vinegar

    • Ganga108 on March 17, 2026

I am making apple vinegar from home grown apples. This is a good guideline but I find it beneficial to stir the vinegar each day to prevent unwanted growths. This is the first time for apple vinegar, but perhaps 6th different time making different vinegars and I quite love the process.

  • Carrot breakfast muffins

    • Nossovitzky on November 12, 2023

Great way to use up old carrots. I used almond meal instead of bran and a mix of walnuts and sunflower seed plus cinnamon. Made 6 large muffins.

  • Odd-knobs mac 'n' cheese

    • rosie_t81cht on April 06, 2026

Added peas, sweetcorn and red pepper. Used up several odds and ends in the fridge. Satisfying!

  • Fig crostata

    • Nossovitzky on April 01, 2026

I made this with sliced plums instead and demerara sugar sprinkled over the top. Perfect easy tart.

  • Quick grape relish from lunchbox-reject grapes

    • lou_weez on January 07, 2024

Great way to use up some sad looking grapes. I served it atop of avocado toast.

  • Coriander paste

    • Ganga108 on July 19, 2025

I love this book. I always find new hints and recipes in it - it is packed with them. I usually make coriander paste with just coriander leaves and salt and vinegar for preservation. It lasts reasonably well. Great idea to add chilli and garlic etc. Love the Odd Knobs Ginger suggestion on the same page.

  • Lentil soup

    • amy_3ah1cl on June 03, 2026

Great way to use up veggie leftovers and make a warm winter meal by keeping lentils in your pantry. Not sure I cooked lentils correctly is only thought, I followed instructions in book but will alter slightly or soak next time. Also added in a ham bone I had in the freezer for extra flavour.

  • Pomegranate juice

    • Ganga108 on June 03, 2026

Today's little project was to make pomegranate juice with fruit from the garden. I have frozen it in small bags for 1-2 uses each bag.

  • Pomegranate molasses

    • Ganga108 on June 03, 2026

I've made pomegranate molasses for many years. This is the way. Sometimes, for a variation of flavour, I add lemon juice and sugar. It is delicious. Watch it carefully and remove from the heat before it becomes toffee.

  • Spicy pumpkin seeds

    • amy_3ah1cl on April 03, 2026

In my effort to use up more ingredients and throw away less I made this with pumpkin seeds leftover from making soup. I cooked in an air fryer for the same time as the recipe and only used salt cumin and olive oil. Touch too much salt on my part but otherwise yum. Reminds me of popcorn. Easy to do!

  • Zucchini slice

    • Nossovitzky on May 20, 2025

Made this with grated patty pan squash and sweet potato. Added sliced spring onions to the mix and halved cherry tomatoes on top. Cheese a mix of what I had - parmesan, Cheddar and halloumi. Delicious!
