I have made at least half the cookies and bars in this book and all have been incredible! The most reliable baking book I have.

I love this book - if you are into cookies (and if you aren't, then you're not a friend of mine) then this is a book you have to own.

Notes about Recipes in this book

  • Best-ever snickerdoodles

Love these, always come back to them after other disappointing recipes

    • Aggie92 on December 11, 2023

These taste amazing, just like old-fashioned snickerdoodles should. But mine spread A LOT and were as flat as pancakes. I even chilled the dough for a few hours and still made flat cookies. Who knows what went wrong? Regardless, I will try these again and see what I can do to make nice looking cookies because these are worth the calories.

This is one of my favorite snickerdoodle recipes, great flavor and texture. However, they spread and are very flat for me, as well.

  • Not Neiman Marcus's chocolate chip cookies

I'm not sure why, but I don't like these much. Maybe they need cinnamon?

  • White chocolate-macadamia nut cookies

      too greasy

  • Death-by-chocolate white chocolate chip cookies

    • Jane on May 01, 2009

These are the cookies I make more than any other. They have a great texture (if you like your cookies more cakey than crisp).

  • Double-chocolate cranberry cookies

    • Jane on November 25, 2011

Really delicious cookies. I made them with dried cherries as that is what I had but I think since they soak in kirsch they would probably be better than cranberries. I made half the dough with 15 mins firming up in the freezer as I didn't have time for the 90 mins in the fridge. They were easy to scoop and the texture of the finished cookie was good. The other half I baked the next day after an overnight in the fridge. The dough was too firm, so should soften up first and the finished cookie was a little too gooey, even with the full suggested 11 mins baking. So if your dough is very cold I would add another min or two to the baking time.

  • Orange-tangerine coolers

    • rosyannposy on December 18, 2023

Good cookie, not very exciting. They improved, both texture and flavor after a few days. Could not taste the coriander so if I do make again I would increase that.

  • German chocolate coconut-pecan cookies

    • Aggie92 on September 01, 2010

So yummy! These are a house favorite.

  • Chewy coconut wafers

    • fultre on June 18, 2022

Lovely homey cookies with great chewy texture, and buttery, oat-y coconut flavor. Will double the recipe next time, I only got 14 cookies using standard scoop. No sticking using Silpat, cooked for 12 minutes.

  • Ginger-spice crinkles

    • Aggie92 on December 11, 2023

Nice spice flavor with just a hint of molasses. Omitted the orange zest and accidentally used a full teaspoon of cinnamon. Really good for the Christmas cookie season!

    • lisari on December 29, 2024

We loved these! Great texture & flavor. Held their shape better after I stuck the dough balls in the freezer for a few minutes before baking.

Publishers Text

An exciting and definitive collection of the nation's best cookies - a must-have for every baker. Celebrate regional gems like Key Lime Frosties and Pennsylvania Dutch Soft Sugar Cookies, homespun classics like Whoopie Pies and Caramel Apple Crumb Bars, and devastatingly delicious contemporary creations like Cranberry-Cherry Icebox Ribbons and Chewy Chocolate Megamorsel Monster Cookies. A hazelnut sandwich cookie that was the closely guarded secret of an Oregon hostess is here, and so is a whisper-thin spice cookie recreated from a handwritten 1880 cookbook. Included as well is a chapter on cookie decorating and crafts, from simple projects like Christmas cookies to a fancy gingerbread house.
